I put on a rear bumper and can't use the lights that were on the stock one. After I cut them off the turn signals flash fast like a burned out bulb(kinda' figured it would)but I was wondering how to fool the system. I tried some resistors and it burned em' up. I feel if I go with a higher watt resistor it might burn the wires. Has any put a after market bumper on a figured out how to make the system normal?

On my DII, I re-wired the flashers to my reverse lights on the cluster and put in an amber bulb. Since, I have a work lamp on the back of my roof rack, I already had lighting for the back with a flick of the switch.

Try measureing the resistance in the bulbs that are supposed to be there then get a resistor with that much resistance.

Give it a wait and you will get used to it. It doesn't bother me at all anymore.

Perry, if you wnat to go the resistor route you need resistors with a higher watt rating. Don't worry about the wires, they'll be ok.

Thanks, I will look into the resistors but for now I found that the light assy fits perfect into a 1" pvc union (for protection)so I put it in there painted the bulbs black with high heat paint and tie wrapped them in a safe place. I measured the resistance of the bulbs and they were only 1.3 ohms. I don't have a clue on what wattage valve it will take. It would be a lot less blukly to have the resistors though.

You might try resistors that have an equal or higher wattage then the bulbs. This could actually add up to a fairly expensive resistor though. Also if the resistors don't have a high enough value you may put a strain on your charging system. A resistor that is too small will be like grounding your light circuit. Good luck

You can put in higher wattage bulbs to repalce the existing turn signal bulbs, or just tie the bulbs from the bumper into the space behind the trim by the rear lights and let them blink away at normal speed.

Perry,

Did you find a solution? Just curious because I am getting a new rear bumper without lights.

I talked to some bumper manufacturers and they said, "tie em' up out of the way". So, thats what I have done for now. (Like I mentioned above) but in my owners manual I found out that the turn signal is 21 watts max so I'm looking for 25 watt resistors to put in there but I'm not too sure about the valve yet. The blubs ohm out at 1.5 ohms. By the way I did finish the bumper I will post some pics real soon.
