I like to hear some opinions on what is the proper way to flush transmission on a 2000 DII. I think I know how to do it but I want to make sure that I do it correctly. Thanks in advance.

Gus.

I've never done it on my disco, but I would think a disco would be like any other vehicle. On my other cars I just drain the ATF, there's usually a plug, drop the pan, change the filter, put her back together, and fill her up with fresh ATF. It doesn't push the cleaner thru like the wynns machine does down at the shop... but on the other hand... it doesn't cost $90 to do either, and in my opinion from having worked in a shop, pretty much nearly as effective. Others may feel differently though.

Gus, let me know how it goes. I plan on changing my atf and filter tomorrow for the first time. Do you have the shop manual for ref. It should walk you through step by step aye.

Take it to a shop (or dealer) and let them flush the system until all the old fluid has been removed. Simply removing the drain plug to remove the old fluid will leave a great deal of old fluid in the system. Using a total flush machine will remove ALL the old stuff.
I opted for the synthetic fluid and have been very happy with the results in my '95 Disco.

this i s how it is done! remove the drain plug. drain atf from pan. once pan is drained. start the car. this spins the torque converter. now starting in park selct each gear all the way down pausing monentarily in each gear. now all the way back up finishing in park. shut off the car. this should have flushed out the torque and all remaining fluid.

Ummm, benny, I think there must be a reason it doesn't say that in the shop manual. I have never heard anyone doing it this way. Can you absolutely CONFIRM that you have done this and that your transmission is still pumping? How many miles ago did you do this? And havr you checked the oil recently?

i know it sounds funnny but i dont belive every thing that they write in the shop manual. we have been doing this for years. it you dont think it works dont try it. or find the drain plug in the torque and drain the torque by removing it. or flush it twice like most are doing here.
its your call on this one! do as you please.
