I went and got a daily driver a few months ago, and I have to say it's been great. Since the Rover has been parked in my driveway absolutely nothing has gone wrong with it. No weird noises, smells, or warning lights, I think the headliner even stopped falling.

i saw it late last night. no one was awake it was dark. i drove by slowly looking at things around the hood. i saw a mangie dog walk by, then a piece of trash blowing in the wind. i drove a little further some cats and an old boot then the disco all clean and glistening in the moonlite! it seemed as though it was dancing to a weird mysterical hym. the wipers were wiggling, the lights blinking even the heated seats were on full blast. i thought man alive what the hell is happening to this guys truck. for sure this dude is getting lucky in the driveway of this here house. but no this was happening and not a sole was in site.
funny ? dont you think?

i hate to bust the party up but this only seams like it works

sitting vehicles have more problems then daily drivers by a large margin

when a truck sits the voltage level drops causing corosion in switches and relays

condensation will settle to the bottom of bearing races and cause a rust line that will then destroy the bearing faster when it is run. This will shorten the life of alternators, water pumps, power steering pumps, and a/c compressors, wheel bearings and u-joints.

the cylinder walls dry out and cause much more wear then when the motor is started. the engine also will suffer from clogging of injectors and fuel filters because sitting fuel hardens causing deposits.

so once again...sorry to bust your balloon...but it only apears to be cheaper, in the long run a sitting truck will eat you alive in a cost per mile calculation.

I've never heard such insensitivity towards driveways ! Leaving a Disco parked will destroy your driveway. SAVE THE DRIVEWAYS, DRIVE THE DISCO !

Thom-

Yes, as a private pilot, our general aviation aircraft engines fair much better when utilized on a consistant basis as opposed to sitting for long periods on the tarmac. And that goes without saying for just about any internal combustion gremlin.

However, you forgot to mention the ill effects of UV exposure on rubber tires and plastic trim, not to mention oxidation of silver, yellow or red colored paints.

And what about neighborhood dogs urinating on the aluminum rims.

Truth be known I still drive it to the MTB trail once a week, and on the odd errand - Oh yes and I filled it full with all the ice damaged pine branches and drove them to the dump. I have to say though since the Disco has been off the 3 thousand mile a month program it seems to be a happier truck. If it’s happy, I’m happy.

Will - My silver paint oxidized years ago, the mottled effect I have is quite the rage here in South Carolina. I used to live in New Mexico, the garage was too small for the Disco – well not if you didn’t need to open the doors. I’m not so sure if the oxidation process or UV damage is dependant upon how often the car gets used – but I have to admit that would be very interesting to see played on out the board over the tired “what brand of gas should I use” debate.

Thom – all very valid and true points. Sitting cars die ugly deaths. You must be catholic; you’ve made me feel so guilty I’ve called a priest to help me through this dark time… In the mean time, I’ve gone back to the bottle, thank goodness I didn’t get ride of that fifth of Woodford Reserve…

Ryan – I checked – it hasn’t moved a millimeter! I think, but it could have moved back just in time if what Ben saw is true…

Tom – the driveway concrete is a critical element to my plan. See it’s like the tachometer in a car that it matters in. Too many drips, I have a problem, no drips – that’s worse. Only clean concrete can give the true and accurate results I require. Nearly a decade of being a Disco owner has taught me the proper drip rate of a finely tuned Rover.
