I have have my 1997 discovery for a year minus one or two months and I have had 2 problems since then.

First off, a few months after I got it the truck wouldn't idle it would race or just die. Well, this went on for about a week and I just didn't have time to take it to get it looked at. I try to do most of the work myself(I dont really trust the locals with my rover - i haven't found a good honest shop yet) - after about a week I washed my car and when I cranked it to move it out of the puddle, it cranked fine and it has ran ever since with no problems! HEALED!

About 2 months ago rover wouldn't lock with the remote! It would lock and then unlock. This went on for a few days - I washed it and I have had no problems! I dont know whats up but washing it has always fixed any problem ive had.

I just was curious if anyone else has experienced odd behavior from their rover like this. I aint complaining - its great - any problem is fixed after I wash it and so I always end up with a great head-turning rover that runs extremely smoothe! Man I Love My Rover!

My XD did the no idle thing, it was ok, and i use that lightly, when you were going, but u could forget about stoping at traffic lights, it was a case of stop, die, green light, start up, stick it in D and floor it hoping it didn't stall (which it did the most times) It turned out being the fuel pump. Prepare yourself for more annoying quirks. Mine sometimes idle's really rough on start up for about 30 seconds. But it's not determined by the weather or anything. I just have a little faith and hope it doesn't break down.

Cheers

Jack

Trying to tell me something? Such as...what? Do you care to elaborate on that comment? All I get from it is that my Rover wants to be washed. Did you interpret anything else from my story? Don't leave me hanging with the ... you must continue! haha

Your Rover likes to be clean, obviously.

Shake up the status quo here on Discoweb and keep your Discovery clean.

Jack...Sounds like your stepper motor.
Easily fixed with a can of brake carb cleaner.

Just take it off, take it apart, clean it, put it back together, and you'll be off and idleing in no time.

Idleing? Ideling? Idling?

Whatever.
