I was just curious if anybody has installed drilled and slotted rotors on their disco? I am interested but do a lot of wheeling in muddy areas and am a little concerned with getting something caught in the rotor and tearing up the pad or rotor. Pros/cons would be helpful from anybody who has used them in these conditions. Thanks.

Yep. I've got them (ordered them from AB)

Seem to stop a bit better, Take a look at the write up on Disco2.com. They give some pretty good explanations of the benefits of them. I needed rotors, had a discount coupon, figured what the heck - I'll give em a shot.

Not disappointed yet, and haven't had any issues with mud/debris.

I've got the DBA's (Disc Brakes Australia) and have found they definitely improve the braking in the Disco I. The drilled rotors seem to cure the fade problem that's caused from over heating with the factory rotors. You can get the DBA's at EE or Rover Connection.

I haven't had any problems with muds or debris, and I even have the mud shields removed. I really can't see any reason they would have a problem with mud.

Thanks guys for the info. I appreciate it. However, I can't believe there is nobody to contribute to the issue of mud/debris getting caught in the rotor. I'm sure this could be a helpful thead for others. I don't want to buy them if there are going to be problems. I just bought some 255x85's. I am thinking about some additional breaking. I'm sure slotted rotors will help for the road but I need some imput for offroad. Let me know!

Steve - guess I need to clarify. I do a lot of off-roading, much of it in mud. That's WHY the mudshields are removed - they're just in the way and pick up sticks, rocks, and other crap (besides the fact they scrape off my wheel weights when I change to the bigger MTs). It's always a good idea to check the underside of your vehicle after wheeling anyway, just to check for hitch hiking debris and/or damage. No mud in those drilled holes will damage your pads anyway - they rub against hot metal for 50k miles, so they're pretty tough.

One other thing considering off roading and drilled rotors, I do a lot of wheeling in the Colorado Rockies. This means using your brakes constantly on steep grades, which is what causes your rotors to over heat and warp. In my opinion, it's just another good reason to go with the drilled/slotted rotors. Ask the guys at EE what they think. I kind of doubt they're selling them with street cruisin' in mind.

The DBAs are worth it just for the gold finish. sure it's a little Bishop Don Magic Juan, but it's nice to have rotors that aren't rusted to hell all the time.

Thanks Craig - 'nuff said.

By the way, Craig, I looked at your profile and you've got good taste in beer. Stone Brewery makes some great brews - the ABA is my favorite. Just another example of the class we Rover guys have I guess. lol
