Just recently my 95 disco started over heating. I am the third owner and the gentleman I purchased the disco from put a new thermostat and coolant resivoir. I topped off the fluids with the correct balance. I notice that I need a new exhaust could a clogged exhaust system create heating issues as above? Also I notice the fans kicking on more than usual. |

I doubt that an exhaust would cause overheating. The fan is kicking on because of the temp of the radiator. I would start there. It's the most expensive part of the cooling system but is usually where the problem is. I had an overheating problem with a 94, replaced everything in the cooling system to find out that it was the radiator. I would take it out, clean it well and look to see if there is blockage in the fins. |

Flushed the cooling system this morning and things seemed to go fairly well. No build up in the radiator. No over heating at the time when I let sit idle for twenty minutes. However when I went to go dump the old fluids it started to over heat as I was driving about 3 miles into it. Could this be a stuck/bad thermostat? I am going to replace and look over the radiator again. Also is there a certain brand I should be using. Currently I have a 50:50 mix of fluid and water. |

I think i know what's burning you up LOL, Without a cooling fan a 4.0 disco will idel for quite a while without overheating if started from cold, your thermostat i think is ok, Drive the disco till it begins to run warm, turn on the ac, If i am right the engine will cool right off, Most likely your fan clutch has gone bad, When engine is good and hot, engine off, The fan should turn very stiffly, and very smooth, If you can detect any play, pushing from rad to engine, It is bad, Just what i think, Mine went bad in a similar way. Peter. |

Barry You have two options rod and clean the radiator. (both tanks) or buy a new one. On a 95 I would do 2nd option. Fan clutch maqy be the culprit but I doubt it. |

When I flushed the radiator it seemed as though the fluids where flowing well and there were not any noticeable debri inside. I did this this three times before I put the antifreeze in. So, could this still be the culprit. Secondly, is there an after market radiator I can pick up or do I have to go to RR for this one? |

Like I said, I tried everything to find out that it is a radiator. You won't be able to tell if you don't take it out unless you have an infrared thermometer. It may be clogged in one area not allowing any flow for those rails of the radiator. In my case it was about half of it. I'd pull it out if it keeps overheating. You can start replacing parts until you find out which one that is but it's not very economical. Also it's not a good habbit to get into when troubleshooting problems. |

It should cost about $80-100 to rod and clean. |
