I need some help here. I changed pads and rotors all the way around about 6 months ago. I still have most of the pad left, but the brakes squeak like mad. Initially, they only squeaked when I did not have the brakes applied, now they squeak all the time. I have taken the tires off to look for problems, but I can't find any. Anyone got some advise?

That is the "advanced aural brake application warning". You did apply anti-squeel on the backs of the pads? My wife complained after I did mine , so I took it out on the freeway and at about 95 stood on the brakes, did it 3 times and it went away. I don't suggest that, but it cured mine.

Maybe I'll do that after I invest in a helmet!

What brand of pads did you use? We used to use Ferrodo and Mintex, and sometimes they'd squeak and sometimes not. We don't have problems with genuine pads ever.

I've got genuine pads on both of mine... and if I don't clean them every 4-6 months they start squeelin. Kind of embarrising to be in a high profile vehicle and have it sound so white trash all the time.

So guys, does that mean that if the brakes are squealing is not nesesarly that the brakes need to be replaced?

Right Marco, I replaced mine two weeks ago, and I still squeal every now and then.

Its just brake dust that usualy causes the pig noise. I might try genuine LR next time I change mine. On my D1 they are really loud--I think I used Raybestos from Pep Boys (special order of course). Melissa

i use mintex and axis pads..one in the same and i never have any squeeling.......the trick- make sure you put a nice heavy layer of anti squeel on the back of the pad.....also if you do a lot of wheeling make sure to rinse out those brakes so they dont retain dirt and dust cheers

Actually now that I remember they kinda started to squeal by the time I used meguires wheel's cleaner, and I recall not using enough water to rinse it, but after that I went river crossing and a car wash as well,

I had a local LR mechanic I trust tell me to spray the calipers with some stuff call MP "metal protection"? I didn't ask him where to get it and have not tried it but they claim it works great. I'll post the results after I try it.
