So, if anyone checked out my "old people piss me off" thread under non-tech, you know why I'm posting this.... So, I still owe my dad money on my truck, since he gave me some cash so I wouldn't have to pay interest to the bank. I just need to convince him that it's cheaper and more effective to upgrade than to replace the stock bumper. With that said, where can I go to check out prices for a stock bumper, and do u guys have any recommendations on a sturdy bumper (that some old woman in a lumina can't damage)? Thanks ... <sigh> |

Take a look around ebay - sure you'll find a stock bumper there - FWIW pay your dad off first. You'll feel better in the long run. If you really want to save some money get a lump of scaffold pole or angle iron and weld some mounting plates on it then bolt it on in place of the front bumper - it will probably look as ugly as sin but if you were worried about paying back your dad that much you wouldn't of borrowed the money in th efirst place. JMHO of course. regards Jeff |

I'll make you a wonderful offer on a stock bumper. It has no lights or air dam (since they will come off anyway if you even moderately wheel your truck). Also, the end caps are already trimmed so that you don't have the "fang" look. Contact me through the email in my profile if you're interested. But in all honesty, I hope you're not. Though I would love to make some cash and get that thing out of my garage, I would love even more to see you upgrade and better your truck. I recommend you check out the Rovertym bumpers at www.rovertym.com. These things are absolutely bombproof. I have the Slimline bumper with the full brush bar on my truck, and I am pleased with it in every way; I don't have a single complaint. |

I'll definitely consider the offers of a stock bumper -- but I'm interested in an upgraded bumper, as I planned to get one anyway. As far as upgraded bumpers go... I have stock springs, and I had planned on getting a lift kit before I got a bumper, but due to "unforseen circumstances" it looks like I'll end up w/ a bumper first. Would it be ok to put a heavy steel bumper on my truck w/ stock springs? Anyone tried it before? |

I wouldn't recommend it. You'll lose clearance and approach angle. |

Its not going to hurt anything, especially if you are going to upgraded in the near future. You will definately get some sag though, the RTE bumper weighs right at 120#. I just had one shipped. |

I have a stock D2 bumper with brush gard in my basement. Its pretty cracked up and scratched but if you want it ill let it go cheap. As far as replacement bumpers, RTE is probably the best. I have an SG and like it alot also. With a bumper, you gotta get a winch to though. and it starts to get pricey. Your front end will sag maybe about an inch if that, but the slimline bumper will increase your approach angle. your also have to relocate your washer bottle if you get a slimline, it is fairly easy though. |

Check out http://atlanticbritish.com for the front bumper. I'm sure you'll find that they are not cheap. |

Rick (lost in boston) -- I appreciate the offer of a stock bumper, but I have a D1 and I don't think they match up. Also, on the D1 the washer bottle is located in the upper left part of the engine bay (standing @ the front bumper looking @ the engine) so no need to relocate. I do plan to upgrade the suspension this summer if at all possible. I don't plan on running stock springs with an RTE bumper for too long. Right now, I have to see where dad stands on fixing my bumper. He might have me drive around with a busted stock bumper. And since I still owe him money, he has some say I just checked atlantic british, and it looks looks to be like $900 for a stock bumper (chrome w/ endcaps and such) and like $1,050 for the RTE slim w/ brushbar and skid plate I kinda laughed when the cop said the damage to my bumper was $1k, because my left headlight assembly is broken, too. Then I thanked him because over 1k would have been a reportable accident and would've been a much bigger problem... |
