The last 3 trail outings the truck has hesitated severely on the first hill climb that tests the engine. Each outing it acts fine after it kind of clears it throat. This past weekend it almost died when I had my foot about half way into the throttle.

I had 3/4 tank of gas. My first thought was that when the truck is climbing it can't suck fuel. But it's wierd that it runs fine the rest of the day.

I'd like to address the issue if anyone has any ideas.

What gear were you in? Hi Lo D or what? What grade of gas are you running? How many miles on your D2? Have you had it serviced in accordance with how many miles you have? Any secondary lights under the binnacle?

Jon,

Kick out some more info so folks can help you out.

I was in Low side, Manual mode 1. Never put anything but premium. Engine was replaced (short block) in November, valve job was done when they swapped the heads to the new block. Have about 4000 miles on this engine. Stock lighting.

Could be a bad ignition wire. I just experienced a similar problem, and it turned out cylinder 6 wire was arcing.

It could be a combination of things. When I first read the top, I was thinking tune-up. But without knowing how many miles in on his D2 I didn't know where to go with it.

Hill climbing = up angle: So is there water in that bowl which is located at the bottom of the air tube? As far as spark plug wires; if there is a bad one, then he should get a check engine light for a misfire. Yes, no?

Is the transmission low on fluid. Has the 60K service been done? That's why I wanted to know the mileage on it.

It's just time for the 60K. I think there is actually 61K and change right now. Would some sensor in the transmission shut the engine down? If so why does it run perfect the rest of the day? It's the weirdest thing.

The plug wires have had a fair amount stress with all the engine work. But I think that we would see other symptoms and probably a check engine.

It really seems fuel related the way I just lost power, I said sputter but it really never back fired just seemed like it didn't have gas or was getting choked off for about 4 seconds then power came back and I was off and climbing.

It seems to be related to a steep climb thing. We were well into a trail before we got to was a nice steep climb, and it started just as the truck pitched back......

i couldn't find what i was thinking of but i did see some things about the coil going bad leading to your symptoms.

i had a dying fuel pump that was weak going up steep hills. power was very flat from 2000-3500rpm. but not close to stalling. after i replaced the pump si when i discovered that there was a power increase.

Thanks for the advice. I'll just wait until it happens a little more frequent. There may be better clues to come.
