I was wondering if you can replace the main bearings by dropping the oil pan and getting at them from below? I dont know if it would be possible or not. If not, i will be replacing my 3.9 with a 4.0 short block most likely. Thanks |

Yes you can access the main bearings by removing the oil pan, but it may not be the best idea. Why are you replacing them? If one is spun then you should have the crank and rod checked also which usually cant/wont be done from below. |

Yes, you can, it's a little more work than just dropping the oil pan. It's not rocket science, but you'll have to drop the Y exhaust pipe, and the transmission too. If you're going to do this go ahead and spend a few extra dollars and buy gaskets, studs, and nuts for the exhaust. It's common to break the bolt(s) at the flange where the Y pipe connects to the single exhaust.
