1999 Disco II 72K miles. It's leaning to the right. Haven't measured the distance yet but it is noticeable, even with someone in the driver's seat. I just bought the truck this weekend and I'm assuming the springs, etc. are original. Do I need new springs? |

Does it have SLS? Mine has been leaning to the left for quite awhile. I had the dealership look at it 3 times. Each time they said they recalibrated the sensors and each time it was fine for a few hundred miles. I wish they would have replaced the sensors as it is now out of warranty. Not sure if new sensors will do the trick or not. |

First off, welcome to dweb, you won't find a better source of info on discos anywhere. Try filling the tank, then looking at it. I know some overseas rovers have taller left springs because the driver and the gas tank are both on the same side. Also, if the springs aren't stock, someone may have used "unmatched springs" from OME or another company. The US discos are made with the driver and tank on opposing sides and therefore have springs of the same length/rate. If the springs are upgraded, they may have been upgraded with a kit made for overseas rover in which the left spring would be taller -- thereby creating the problem that moving the gas tank fixed. www.expeditionexchange.com has a better description if you look at the info under the OME (old man emu) stuff. Another possibility -- has the rover been offroaded? Consider bent frame, though it's unlikely. I had to turn around on a trail and I had my rear bumper over a small hill, just barely had enough clearance. Then my rear tire slipped into a rut and my bumper slammed down on the hill and bent it. For a little while it looked like I had damaged my suspension -- then I tried jumping on the one side of my bumper and was able to straighten it If the springs don't feel too mushy and the tilt doesn't bother you too much, I wouldn't worry about it. Hope this may help a little, welcome to dweb |

Beau, I know this sounds sad but... I'm not sure if it has SLS or not. I think it does, because it has the SLS button on the control panel. I was going to wait till my other car is back home safely before I tested that button, just in case something bad happens when I press it. Dave, Thanks for the info. I'm pretty sure this truck has seen very little if any off-road. The woman I bought it from lived in Baltimore and just used it as a daily driver. It still has the original Michelins (which are in pretty sad shape, after 72K, and definitely on the top of my list for replacement), so I'm guessing the springs are also stock. When I first noticed the lean, the tank was pretty low, and since it's leaning to the same side as the tank, I'm guessing that filling the tank won't help matters much. I'm not sure what "mushy" would feel like, since the truck is still new to me (as you can tell by my lack of knowledge about whether it has SLS). Thanks for the welcome. |

I think you should re-evaluate the condition after the tire replacement. After 72K miles, you can't tell how much support you're getting per tire, regardless of tire pressure. After so many miles, it's likely that sidewalls are softer than before. Still, it would be worth wile to crawl underneath and take a look for anything bent, broken... My bet is on tires. |

You did check the tire pressure, right? |

Yes, tire pressure is good. Now, to figure out what size tires I can fit on it without modding suspension... |

I doubt anything bad will happen, unless the previous owner purposely switched the SLS button with an ejection seat apparatus. This button will raise the rear of the vehicle about 3" to allow for a little more rear bumper clearance when offroading. If you look at the rear tires you should see black airbags instead of springs. Those are the airbags for the SLS system. I am wondering if ACE will have anything to do with the lean. My D2 does not have ACE, and I am not certain as to how it works/what it does exacly. |

As far as the largest tire you can fit -- I've had the stock tires completely tucked before and theres no room for anything bigger without at least modifying the bumpstops. |
