Ok brief history of my 2000 Disco. Bought it in July of last year from local Mazda dealer. It has 40k miles and I've added an OME suspension and new tires. Been wheeling about a dozen times the last being this past Saturday. When we got to the top of the trail I smelt a burning smell, not sure if it was my brakes or transmission being a little hot as I did some of the trail in high (I know not to do that anymore now, always wheel in low). Didn't really think much of it at the time. We did some water crossings and a few mud pits but nothing that was deep enough to suck water into the air intake. Everything seemed fine from leaving the trail right up to dinner Wednesday night. No check engine lights, no weird noises and everything seemed to run fine. After dinner got in the Disco and started home only to notice the check engine light on. It's still on this morning so now I'm thinking something might be wrong. I got an extended warranty with it when I bought it from the Mazda dealer. The closest Rover dealer is like 2 hours away so I need to get the work done here in town. I'm wondering if by providing the information above you all could give me some things to look at before I bring it in to get checked. Also if I have to take it to a dealer here in town would Ford be the best choice? Any help would be great, thanks. |

I would just take it to the dealer...I would not take it to someone who does not work with LRs all the time. That's just me! The light could mean a 100 different things. If you just want to have an idea of what the problem is before you go to the dealer, you can take it to AutoZone and have them tell you what the fault code is. Then you can post it on Dweb and someone could give you an idea of what the problem could be.... Gus 00DII |

Do I need to replace my Oxygen sensor???

Cary-- Autozone's OBD II code computers aren't Land Rover specific... the codes they gave to me for were a Ford-based engine. If the O2 sensors think your engine is running too rich, it could mean any number of things.. your ECU, intake systems, etc etc. Don't freak out and think you need to drop a few hundred for new O2 sensors. If you have a warranty, I'd definitely take it to Land Rover and see what they have to say.
