Hey Folks,

The lock works w/the alarm and the key. The inside latch opens the door but the outside latch does not open the door. This just happened. I searched the archives and could't find an answer. Any ideas?

Jeremy there is a spring in the latch that has broken or fallen off is my guess. Unlock your doors with your remote or use the key in the drivers door either way. Then go to the back stick the key in the lock turn it keep it turned then pull up on your handle should open. If you look the piece that sticks up out of the door can't think of it's name but it is the piece you would pull up to unlock a door drops maybe a 1/4 of an inch when you take the key out just enough for it not to work.

jeremy there was a thread on this a few months back, try doing a search. the thread had pictures and everything.

i had the same problem myself and fixed it.

what has probably happened is that the metal extension rod that connects to the outside door handle to the door latch mechanism has stretched. so when you pull the outside door lever the latch does not open.

it is a pretty easy fix but you need to pull the inside trim panel off. which requires taking the speaker out and the inside armrest/door pull and indie door lever off. once you have those off the trim panel will come off. it works best if you have a trim panel removal tool. (6.95 at kragen) the tool keeps you from breaking all of the red plastic pop in studs that hold the panel on. you will most likely break some.

once you have that off you will need to peal back the plastic vapor barrier. it is stuck on with this black tar liike adhesive. you will probably end up ripping the plastic so try and be careful. once it is off look toward the left side of the door and find the opening in the metal skin that is close to the latch mechanism.

you will see a thin 1/8" thick pot metal rod that runs vertically connecting the latch to the external lever. the rod is threaded on one end and you can pop it off and adjust it to make it shorter. pop it back in place and do the reverse of above.

J...
I had a similar experience, which was much easier to fix on my Disco. The inside handle opens the door, but the outside handle just feels like mush.
Spray some WD40 up inside the latch mechanism. Work the handle a few times and BAM! She opened right up. Dust and dirt are hell on linkage.

Try what Ed said first. I had to pry it with a screwdriver to get it to move at first.
If that doesn't fix it, pull your panel to investigate.

FIXED! Thanks for all of the help.

A little metal clip that holds a rod that connects the outside latch to the release mechanism was MIA. I used a different clip for now and it works.

Thanks again and Happy Rovering ;0)
