I have a 1994 Discovery with a 3 inch lift and 235/85/16 BF Goodrich MT tires. I have done the rear fender relocating thing and a slight bit of trimming.I am thinking of getting some Nato style steel wheels. The backspacing is about 1 inch different from stock. Will I have to worry about rubbing the fenders with the tires sticking out further? Thanks Charles

I believe the stock wheels are backspaced more than the nato wheels. I rub my rad arms more with the stock wheels than I do with the nato wheels (same size tires).

Stock has 33mm backspace, and NATO has 22mm.

oh no! it can't be!!! LOL LOL !!!
well, even if i did say it, OFFSET is the correct term. not backspacing.

nadim, do you still have my post or email from 3 years ago? or are you recalling it from memory?

OK so the Nato is going to stick out further correct? Has anyone had any problems with fender rubbing when trying to stuff the rear wheel up in there? Charles

Hey Charles,
I had a set of NATOs on my D1, but only ran 245/75 ATs on those wheels, but never had any problem stuffing the 245s. Wish I had known you were in the market for a set, I just sold my set of 5.. Hope all is well over there in NC.. Rob

Robert I put some new tires and another 1 inch lift about a month ago. My wifes van has died with only 296,000 miles on it. So she is going to driving the Rover for a while. So we are thinking getting another set of wheels and tires for street use and use the steel wheels and mt tires for trail fun. You going to Uwharrie? Charles

Ho,

I searched for 2 days, and I cannot believe I found it! Dated March 30, 2001! 3 years ago...Damn!

What is weird is that you're right about the 20.6 and I was wrong about the 22! Seems I have been doing all my calculations off by 1.4mm!!!

Here it is:

"hi nadim.
are you looking for info on wheels?

i was there sometime ago... looking for the same info.

there are 3 wheels that i know of... i am sure there are more out there.

but these are the three i know of, and have them.

NTC 5793 - 16 x 7.0 with 33.0 mm off set. (disco spare tire steel wheel)
ANR 4636 - 16 x 5.5 with 33.0 mm off set.
ANR 1534 - 16 x 6.5 with 20.6 mm off set.

the off set measurement is from the center of the wheel to the mounting
plane of the wheel.
33 mm off set is the same as the discovery stock alloys and spare tire.
i'll have a full write up on them soon along with pics.

good luck.

ho chung"

Where's that write-up dude?
3 years later and people are STILL wondering! Sheesh!

Ho...we're not worthy!

This is so familiar....went thru the same thing 6 years ago when I ended up with the nas110 wheels (anr 1547 I think).....the inner edge is 11mm further out from the center of the vehicle. which is as near as dammit half an inch so I don't think they stick further out as Ho suggests.... (6.5 rim v 7)
Now lets sit back and wait for Nadim to find another three year old post from Ho on the subject of which wheel sticks out more....
