My freind has a 2002 DII and hit an elk with it so it has been in the shop. He just got it back and the exterior temp readout is now in Celcius. How would he go about changing it back to Fahrenheit?

TIA,
Jeremy

It's in the owners manual. Press and hold the air recirc button. At the same time press and hold the power button for 3 seconds. It should beep and change from C to F.

Yep that's right. Oh while we're here, how do you turn off the AUTO mode? After 3 years now I still have to press random buttons until finally it detects sufficient despair that it actually turns if off! Fuck!

Dean,
Selecting the recirc button does the trick in my 99 RR. Takes it right out of AUTO and then I just use the fan to control it. My 96 Disco has no such option.

If in Deg C add 15 and double it to get Deg F.
20 Deg C is ~70 Deg F

On really hot days add a little less then 15.

I don't know where you got that from Andrew. The equation is: F = (9/5)C + 32

Tried it this morning Ed, no luck! I think that the auto mode is just setting a bunch of other things, such as fan speed, temp, eco/not, etc, and you have to turn them all off individually, i.e. its not a toggle switch.

Dean- On my 99DII I just push the button that directs where the air comes out, ie. defrost, dash, floor... This takes it out of auto and then I can adjust the fan speed accordingly.

That would be close, but Shane actually posted the correct formula. (C x 1.8) + 32 = F

Yep, Axel and Shane are correct.

F = (9/5)C + 32

C = 5/9 x (F-32)

I think Beau is right about just hitting the vent selector switch - I think this takes auto off in my D2 although I can't remember for sure.

Nope, not on mine! Tried it today.

Why the fuck can't it be auto-on, auto-off? What kind of fucking spas designed that one?

Dean - if you hit the econ button then you can turn off the fan - but can't use A/C

normally the fan is at least on the lowest speed - i think even with the HVAC system turned off

There are two individual components that can be either automatically or manually controlled.

Vent
Fan Speed
Thermostat

Vents will switch to where the temp sensors detect the most need

Fan speed is automatically changed depending on the difference between the programmed temperature desired and the temperature inside the vehicle.

Temperature is manually set, but automatically controlled.

Dean...I think you may have a problem with yours. If you can't get it out of AUTO by selecting Recir or one of the direct air buttons...hmm.

Auto is always enabled because temperature is always automatically controlled.

When you assume manual control of fan speed or vent distribution, the icons leave the "Auto" box and are placed elsewhere on the AC control panel.

If you wish to turn off the A/C compressor, just hit the "Econ" button.

Craig,
I also can switch mine to instead of showing the temps it says "LO" and there is no "AUTO" showing. Kinda like the second pic except no auto and "LO" in place of the numbers.
Thanks,
Mark

Ok you were on the right track. It has been concluded that the AUTO mode sets 3 different things (fan, direction and econ mode), and you have to press all 3 buttons just below the display (all except the external temp) to remove the auto flag and return to normal.

So I think I finally have it down to 3 button presses. Thanks all, it was driving me nuts.

Dean
