99 D2...rear SLS airsprings started leaking down recently...checked the manual out and they are almost ridiculously easy to remove....put 4 oz of tire leak repair gunk in them and now they are holding up again just fine. It's the green sealant stuff from Home Depot for repairing lawn tractor tires. I figured I had nothing to lose here as replacement airsprings are plenty $$$$$$. Cheaper to do the metal spring retro fit...

How do the spring vent? I wouldnt want that stuff clogging the vents or the valve. Did you figure out what was leaking?

Very permanent, how is the compressor going to let the air in and out now? you've also filled the tubes to and from the air pump and the air release solenoids with the filler now so those will seal

Actually the sealer stays fluid inside the BOTTOM of the airspring...there is no travel to the top air supply tube (unless I roll the car..:-)). The solenoids/pump etc all seem to be working just fine. I did this fix for now...I know I'll have to convert to 'real' springs eventually...esp. if the pump fails...just not worth fixing at that point. If I can buy another year though it's fine with me!

Ah, OK thats different from the foaming stuff we get in the UK, that would get everywhere in the system

Considering all the benefits of SLS wouldn't it be better just to replace the air bag if its punctured, or is that a second mortgage job?

The bits for this system are VERY expensive in the US...a 'conversion kit' runs about $400.00 tops...
