In order to center the steering arm and adjust the steering 'play' on my '97 D1 I have to insert a bolt into the proper gearbox threaded hole to keep the arm centered during adjustment.

Does anyone know what size (i.e., diameter, thread count, and minimum length) this bolt should be?

I wouldn't worry about it. I just used a tapered punch. Tap it in place, adjust away.
