i thought i was home free, but no. My '97 d1 won't go into lo range. It looks as though the whole lever has moved foreward. It's stuck in high and the lever is in the middle of the leather pouch. It does go into diff high but won't go into low in or out of diff lock. I think the lever might be hitting something that's stopping it from going into low. Nothing i can think of can have broken it, it didn't break suddenly when 4 wheeling or anything. Any idea's??? Thanks Jack |

I just fixed the linkage on mine last weekend... not fun. Pull the centre console, drill the rivets around the shifter and you'll have total access to the linkage. Mine was corroded a LOT and after soaking with PB Blaster and some wire brush work it freed up. Your linkage may have come apart possibly- silly tiny clips that hold it together etc. Do you have a factory worksop manual? I can give details via email if you want. |

I do have a haynes manual. I think this is a sign. I had it serviced a few months back and there was a bunch that needed doing on the engine. Rear main seal, bottom end has to be filthy, and i want to clean the sump. I think i'll take her off the road for a while and yank the engine and gearbox and get everything fixed at once. I might look into stroking and boring it. <sigh> something i knew was coming. Thanks Jack |
