Hi All-

Anyone, have this bar or seen it in person? Kinda like the molded look a little better. Would you think an average person with average tools and intelligence could install?

Thanks for any advice.

Well, I hate to be an ass, but the first thing that says to me is cheap, not the price, but the look/construction.

If you actually off-road, it'll be a nuisance, if you don't, it's poser-ish. I can think of countless ways to better spend $600 plus oversize s/h.

Install should be straight-forward, It probably fits the same way the center plastic piece snaps onto the bumper. Couple snaps, couple screws or bolts.

Jeff- I believe you will be able to install it. If you have any questions during installation call AB and they walk you through it. However I agree with Dave, it does not offer much protection for the $600.00 plus shipping.

Jeff,

I have one, and it has got to be the easiest things to install I have put on my truck. All it uses is the two holes that would be used to secure the european license plate.

Having said that, Chris is right on about the price. Someone at AB is smoking crack!

You can get the exact same A-bar at Paddock Spares(http://www.paddockspares.com/shop/pages/discovery2/accessories.htm look for the PM502) in the UK for 105 pounds (~US$200). How the people at AB came up with their price is a complete mystery to me.

For what I wanted (a place to mount lights and some protection for my grille) it was fine. However, it isn't a substitute for a steel A-bar.

I mounted Hella 4000 Eurobeams, and found that the factory holes were too close to the grille. I had to create additional brackets that moved the lights forward about 2.5". The WiPac lights shown on the Padock site would have fit without modification.

You can see a picture of it on my truck here:

Hope this helps.

Victor

I have the same on my truck but with the headlamp protection wings. This gives you another 4 mounting point and beefs the whole thing up. OK its not as good as a TMJ or ARB but owning a bull bar in the UK is seen as nearly as bad as going off road in a truck.

With the extra mount points (Which I re-inforced) you can push through brush etc and the other advantage of the ABS is that you can nudge the car in front when parking without doing any damage
