I'd like to swap out the viscous clutch driven engine fan for an electric unit, but have had little luck in locating a kit for the disco. anybody done this? where can i find a decent unit? would it free up a couple ponies? |

Hi Dave - pretty sure that Kenlowe do a fan kit - but you may have to order it from the UK. It should be possible to modify other fan kits to suit though. Can't remember how much hp you'll free up - have some info about this at home. I'll try and post it later. regards Jeff |

I bought a 27" flex-a-lite fan, but it will require some minor mods to make it work, Jeff is correct on the Kenlowe fan, it is a direct fit as per my Rimmer Bros catalog. http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/cgi-bin/rimmer?findpart&PartID=RA1095 $280 US dollars.

Kits are not Disco specific. You can use just about any elec. fan kit. Look at some Hot Rod magazines, there are tons of kits available. And probably cheaper than Kenlowe. |

There is a series of fans that go by the "hurricane" name- real popular in racing and most NASCAR cars (at least the ones made in North Carolina) use them. I used one in my MG and it could probably pull the car with the fan alone. About $200. It's a universal fit, so you gotta be a little handy to make the mounts. Thermostatically controlled with override switch. I also add a dash light that indicates when it turns on by thermostat just in case I don't hear it. |
