HI, I'm going to be replacing my sump gasket on a '99 D2. What should i use to clean the inside of the oil pan? Should i do any other cleaning while i have the pan off? Any tip or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks -Patrick |

Any good solvent will do. I used carb cleaner, based on kerosin, i think. While you at it, clean whatever you feel like inside engine too And surroundings. Take crap out from oil shield (intake looking thingy with mesh in it. You may need bit of wire to get all of it cleaned inside. Before dropping pan - run some good engine flush solution. Like B&G. It will reduce amount of gunk you will have to deal with by hands. And mind them bloody sharp edges with cleaning insides of pan |

Great timing. I'm hoping to have time this weekend to replace the gasket on my sump soon. When replacing the gasket and buttoning things back up, should you use any type of gasket sealer or anything else? Can anyone tell me how long this typically takes and is there anything to be aware of so that this seamingly minor project doesn't turn into a big one? thanks, |

I use the "Right Stuff" gasket maker. Tip, when re-installing your pan, make sure the dip-stick bracket is out of your way, else it will mess-up your gasket bead. |

. . . And lift the vehicle up as high as you can, and let the axle drop as low as possible without straining the brake lines. You will need lots of room. I just did this about a month ago. |
