I have a 98 Disco and when I first start it, it sounds a little louder for a few minutes and then it sounds normal again. Is this how all V8 are? I know the V8 Cherokees always sounded a little loud also is this normal?? |

I know what you mean, upon starting there's an engine "roar". I've never spoken to a tech about this, but I know my truck does it as well. I actually like the sound I wish it always sounded like that... |

I dont think it is a V8 thing, but I have heard it on other vehicles. My D2 does not do it but my D1 always did. |

Its the Fan. When you start it up the viscus coupeling (sp) is cold and it powers the cooling fan. After awhile, it realizes it doesnt need to power it and it freewheels (something like 3 min). If it starts to get warm, you will notice the same sound for a bit. |
