I have head lights but no dash lights or tail lights. Is this a sign of a bad head light switch 96 D1. Solo |

Check your fuses. Not sure what it is on the disco, but on honda's its called "small lights." I used to install speakers, cd receivers, and amps -- used to blow that fuse all the time, and those are the symptoms. If the headlights turn on, I would say it's not a bad switch. |

Had this problem before, look through the old posts, its the headlight switch, gets corroded etc. Supposedly you can clean it and it may work but I just got a used one. |

Headlight switch. Take it out and clean it. Check for scorching. Mine burned up and I had to have it replaced. |

The fuses are fine. I pulled the covers off the steering column and tried to remove the whole arm assembly but it wouldn't come out. Is it held in by a screw or does it pull out. Thanks for the help Larry |

Ok the screws are out and the plugs are out, one of which has scorch marks so I guess the switch is toast. The switch assembly rocks back and forth in the collar but won't come out, is there a trick to pulling it out. Thanks Larry |

Yeah same thing happened to me, the big block plug had scorch marks etc. Pulling it out is a little weird, I just followed the directions from my post and pulled it straight out, it came out with sort of a "snap" sound with some force but it was fine. There are two tracks that the switch runs on, one on the top and one on the bottom and you have to remove it perfectly straight. Sounds kinda weird but once you get in there you will know what I mean |

Give it a yank toward the driver's window. It pulls out in a wierd way. I couldn't figure it out at first, either. |
