94 D1

Can someone confirm this please - the mounts have a threaded bolt attached BOTH sides (running through), and you have to undo a nut on both sides of them to remove them?

Also, if anyone can give me a tip here, the haynes and shop manuals are different, but basically the shop manual says (when removing engine) to undo mount nuts, lift engine a little to clear the bolt on its lower side, remove the mount, and then release the engine so that the brackets sit directly on the frame mount without the sandwiched rubber. Is this ok to do when the engine is still connected to the transmission (as it suggests)?

Thanks muchly,

Dean

The reason for removing the engine mounts is to gain better access to the top bell housing bolts, in addition to lamda plugs .. ect... I found a swivel head 3/8 rachet very helpful also..

Do you remember how many engine-to-transmission bolts there are? 2 up top and another 6 is what I think I can see, but I'm not sure.

Also, do you remember about the mounts? Is what I was saying right, that they have a bolt all the way through with threads on both ends?

Thanks

Dean

Bolts on both ends. Lift engine remove and replace. No need to disconnect the transmission. A very tall jack and a 2x4 works well. Someone had a picture maybe theyy can post.

8 total (bell housing bolts) and 4 flex plate to torque converter bolts.
it that what you were asking?

Dean - Yes as far as the engine and trans moving together. The assembly will pivot off the trans mounts. If you are planning any drivetrain work and have the y-pipe and crossmember out, the easiest access to the bellhousing bolts is by dropping the trans mounts as they attach to the frame. You can then drop the rear of the trans by 8"-10" and plainly see the bellhousing bolts and access them via a 36" extension and a butterfly impact.

The mount has 2 treads, one each side.
It is not a running one!
So u have to undo both ends, like Charles said.

Thank you all soooo much, that's all very useful. I'm removing the engine, and the transmission is staying put, but I'll keep that in mind Curtis if I can't get to the bolts.

Thanks Runnerma, I never considered they could be two separate bolts! Duh. I though one had sheared.

Thanks all,

Dean
