Not sure if I am just so frustrated with this that I can't let it go, or if I am just stupid - wandering aimlessly in a hopless sea of Lucas darkness... So my door locks stop working. I have a 1994 with the factory alarm. I figure it must be the drivers side door lock actuator since that is what everyone says... I've been through 3 actuators - none of them work, or there is another problem elsewhere. The thing is, there is a CPU for the door locks and alarm. But no body sells them, I can't even find a part number anywhere. It took two days for the parts department at the dealership to even acknowledge it's existence. If this thing is soooooo elusive, is it really very likely that it has bought the farm and I need a new one? Wouldn't someone else know what it is and where to get one? The other thing is that when I push the LOCK button on the control, it makes the door locks do SOMETHING!! they all make noise, like they are trying to move, but none of them do, and the alarm still works like normal.... help, it is so frustrating to drive around for 3 months with not interior trim, and without the ability to lock and unlock my doors reliably. I will prevaile - I hope... |

Can you manually lock/unlock the doors, but pushing/pulling on the drivers door lock? |

No, I have to hit each one individually. But when I do, they all make the sound... Sounds like the little actuators moving, but without any movement. And, like I said, they do respond and the alarm does activate, to the remote - just no actual movement. I tested the harness plug that comes to the door, I'm not sure exactly what wire is supposed to do what, but the main power wire is getting juice, the ground is good, and each of the other two "control" wires do register a small 2-4 volt spike when the locks are activated. |

Thanks Will, I would be willing to try it, but - and, no offense here - but two DiscoWebbers already offered me actuators, then fell through when I asked them if I could get my money back if they didn't work. I ended up having to buy the actuators on eBay. How do I know it works? (How do you know?) And can I get my money back if it doesn't? Other than testing the plug with a volt meter I have no idea how to test the CPU. It would be nice to know before I try anything new... If you really have a good CPU, I would be able to pay you with a check or with PayPal, and you can contact me at: [email protected] |

Well I can certainly understand your concern. I dont know that the issue is your ECU. I simply offered an alarm ecu based on your prior post. I am not there to test your truck unfortunately and I will not promise that when you plug in the new ecu your problem will be solved. I am sorry that you ended up with a not so desirable situation with trading on DWEB. Most of the guys on here have been a pleasure to work with. I do however know that the ecu I have works and well. Before purchasing my ecu I would suggest finding out the root cause. IF indeed it is your ecu then contact me. I have a working one. |

Thanks Will, I plan on stopping by my local independent shop tomorrow and going over the problem with him. I will let you know. Yes, it was dissapointing to get people offering me the actuators, setting up shipping, coming to a price, but never actually answering my questions about if it WORKS???? Then disappearing and not returning emails........ If I can nail the problem down to the ECU I will email you - it would be worth it. |
