I am having a problem finding out why my coolant slowly dissapears. I have no leaks so i'm guessing that it is leaking into the block and burning up or something. How do I check if this is happening or are there other things I should look for and what are the next steps in fixing the problem.

If you were burning the Coolant, you would also be eating O2 Sensors. It is probably leaking somewhere, you just have to look around all hoses, seals and gaskets that the coolant could leak from.

Hoses 7 or 8 of them
seals and gaskets, a lot of them too.

Pressure test the cooling system, its very simple and you will see a leak immediately if its external.

Also, does your engine oil look ok?

yeah engine oil is good, I was thinking that if coolant was leaking into the block it might show up in the oil but the oil is good. I get that gurgling sound under the glove box, which is the sign to fill the coolant back up. I will keep looking for the leak.

Does anyone know where to buy the pink looking coolant that LR puts in the D2's? I've found green and orange, but no pink.

You can get a black light, put some florescent dye in the radiator and see if leaking anywhere.

Greg - the DIIs take the orange stuff (Dexcool - usually used in GM engines) - it just looks pink in the reservoir - draw some out and you will see

Oh? Cool. I've been hesitant to add any orange coolant to mine because I thought I just wasn't finding the right stuff.

Thanks for the tip. I'll draw some out for a comparison test tonight. :-)

Woo - gurgling sound under the glove box ? Are you sure you are not leaking fluid from the heater element - its around there somewhere isn't it ?

I have had both problems.

1. check under the truck toward the back of the engine. See if you have coolant leaking down from - it looks like the top of the transmission. Evidently there are some screws back there that get loose or it could be a gasket. Check the archives for coolant leak - back in March of 04 there were some postings on this. I still don't know the fix - taking mine in next week - of course i am not out of warranty.

2. Swishing sound - i heard this is the heater core with some water in it. Will eventually go away. Not 100% about this but mine doesn't do it anymore and i did nothing.
