Ok so I changed the front diff oil on the D1 the other day and it was black. Im guessing that I have a bad seal in the swivel ball and the swivel greese is mixing with the gear oil. I have a swivel ball seal kit so that should fix the leak, but how do find out which seal is bad? Is it as simple as pulling the drain plug on both swivel balls and see which one leaks out gear oil and grease or is it more complicated.

You can try draining the fluid out of both sides to see what amount of grease comes out of each side. Otherwise if you know it has been awhile since either side has been done I would do both and get it over with. Recently, I rebuilt both my swivels - my left inner seal was completly gone just the metal housing of the seal was there so I was glad to do both sides. (FYI, drive for about 3 miles or so to warm up the grease so it will drain well)
