can you remove the rear muffler without loosing backpressure and engine performance? I've hit it so many times off road and it makes a nice throaty sound with it off doesn't it?

Cheers

Yeah, my resinator is pissing me off too. Always wondering when it's going to get caught. I've heard of several people removing theirs. I'd say you would be ok. I'd like to know what the thing is for? Something to do with the tone/sound I'm guessing.

Were you able to sign up for the NVTR event? If so, try and stop through Reno. It would be cool to see another XD for once.

"The forward and rear sections are joined by a silencer. The silencer is fabricated from stainless steel sheet to form the body of the silencer. An end plate closes each end of the silencer and is attached to the body with seam joints. Perforated baffle tubes inside the silencer are connected to the inlet and outlet pipes on each end plate. Internal baffle plates support the baffle tubes and together with a stainless steel fibre absorb combustion noise as the exhaust gases pass through the silencer."

I copied this from the Rave CD's workshop manual. From this description, it only attenuates noise. So if you like/don't mind the sound with it off, then it won't hurt to take it off.

I have a 96 D1 that finally needed a new exhaust from cats back. Had a Flowmaster 50 put in place of the old muffler and shit canned the rear muffler/resonator, just a straight pipe with tastefully flared end cap. Works great in the 6 months I've had it, no change in performance or mileage unfortunately. A bit noisier, but tolerable, and no way to snag it off road.

so the big ass muffler underneath the car you had replaced with a flowmaster 50, and then no rear resonator. Did you use all the stock pipes or did you have new pipes bent?

New pipes bent, out of mild steel. Same diameter as original, if I recall correctly it's 2 1/4". Any muffler shop can do the mandrel bends. Meineke did mine, the whole thing installed cost $175. It can be done for less - I wanted it done while I waited so it cost a bit more. It took all of an hour. And yes, it tucks up quite nicely. And no, the back seat floor doesn't get warm, or so my kids tell me.

I had cut my resinator cut off and a straight pipe ran out the back and couldn't feel or hear any diff. I also don't hear it drag any more on the trails.

I bought a 90 degree tailpipe from Advance for, like, $3.00. Took a hacksaw ro the pipe at the resonator and ran the 90 out behund where my mudflap would be. I don't notice any difference except less clutter dragging the trail.

Just do it.
