Thanks

Can you pick up the LR warranty after the regular warranty has expired, or do you have to do it before then? I also am looking for options before I need them!

I know that there are other warranty companies out there. Are any of them worth anything?

I was denied an extended warranty b/c I did not have 1 month AND 1,000 miles at LR Houston North. At the time, I had 43.3k and 1 day left on the warranty.

I think i was quoted something like $1800 for an extended warranty for our 2000 D2, I didn't bite, but in hindsite it would probably have been a smart thing to do. Murphy's law predicts that if you buy it you won't use it, if you don't buy then you'll do like I did and replace things like the Rotoflex, MAFS, Secondary air injection pump (combined at dealer rates would have offset the warranty $) and some others I feel are coming ..argh..just after you click over 55 or 60K

considering i had to fight with my dealer to get warranty stuff done on my vehicle when it was still convered by its originar warranty, i will never buy an extended one from them. Plus the quality of work at the dealer by me is horrible. my truck is more fucked up after they worked on it. If something breaks and they replace it with a stock part, its probably going to break again after the warranty is up.

I went w/ Allstate (Gold) that can be purchased up to 30K miles. Paid a pretty penny ($2000)but it has paid for itself and they cover a bunch of stuff. In fact-it's in the shop now and they are covering $2500 worth of repairs. They hate me!!

I would start the process at least 2 months and 2000 miles before the end of the original. On paper they say 1 month and 1000 miles but we were almost denied as well and we were 90 days and 1250 out.

BTW, best money I ever spent on our Disco. 2 months after it went into effect (@55K), the transmission went. After that 2 power steering pumps and just 2 months ago the engine was replaced. All fixed under the extended warranty and each time I only had to pay the $100 deducible. for me it was worth every penny and paid for itself after the first big repair.

Btw, the price of extended warranties are negotiable.

Get one. I have one that expires in about 400 miles. It has paid about $10k worth of repairs and cost me $2500.

Would any warranty cover a vehicle if it was modified? Or if they can claim that it broke due to off road use?

Depends on the adjuster. If the mods are touching the part that has broken, then they most likely will try to pin it on them and reject the claim.

Agree with Chris. Also I am talking about my 95 D1 and a 5 year 50k warranty. It is not a dealer warranty though.

I have an extended warranty but I bought a third party one so I wouldn't have to be tied to the dealer to get work done.

Melissa, what's your opinion on this? You seem to be smartest person on this subject (in my humble opinion). Ray

The early D2 engines have very serious design flaws leading to build up of carbon crap all over the valves. So unless you take great care and extra precautions from early on, you're likely to need the warrantee more than, say, an upcoming 2001 model when its time. Keep that in mind.

Third party warranty vendors can "disappear" with your money. Read the fine print, and if they offer a deluxe version buy it. Often times the basic warranty will not cover things like O2 sensors and other sensors that LR's are known for. I found only one company that would do an extended warranty on LR (and it was internet based) - My credit union said no they were not covered under Ordesco Warranty b/c LR's were 'known' to have serious flaws..With very expensive repair bills. They hit the nail on the head with expensive repair bills.
Best, Melissa
