Just swung through the dealer to pick up a set of pads to put on a 2002 this weekend. They quoted me $283 for parts only. Then I checked EE, and they want around $255 without shipping. Has anyone found a better source for quality pads that aren't this high? They don't necessarily need to be genuine, just good pads. I was thinking about $100 but I thought this would even be high. thanks...

Nathan - apart from the obvious pep boys etc - which could have the best prices.

I'd try any of these:

www.britishpacific.com - lockheed $100 a set

www.northeastbritishparts.com - Mintex $70 a set - PBR metallic - something like $90

Don't forget to replace the pins and clips/springs as well - definitely worth the extra couple of bucks.

HTH

regards

Jeff

Whoops - missed the 2002 bit sorry Nathan - I think either NWBP or BP do the mintex under $100 a set for the D2.

that's fast...

i like the prices better on the mintex, discount british has pads listed for $109 front and rear which sounds much more reasonable. Does anyone have any experience with these? Its not like the originals were all that stellar, but I would like to know if they're complete trash before i run out and buy them...thanks again.

I have the Mintex on mine...I bought an entire kit including pads and rotors from DAP for $299. I find the Mintex at least as good as the genuine pads...no problems other than occational mild squealing that seems to go away with a car wash...had noise with the factory pads as well.

I bought a complete setup and very happy with what I bought: Tire Rack - Brembo rear rotor ($44 ea.) and EBC 6000 Extra Duty pads f & r ($69 set), www.man-a-fre.com - DBA front slotted (not drilled / $109 ea).

I went with an odd option, but with such a heavy vehicle, didn't want to scimp on the front, but saved on the rear. The DBA slotted on the front have awesome stopping power compared to the stock. I have about 25k on them and still lots of life on the pads. Man-a-fre is a Landcruiser shop, but only DBA shop I found that stocked the Rover rotors, pretty helpful too.

That is my 2 cents.

We do probably 10-15 brake jobs per week, and have been consistently let down with Mintex. My supplier is letting me return worn pads under warranty, but almost all of them have come back.

What's Man-A Fre doing with Rover parts? They've been a big LC mecca since the 70's.

I was sure the dealer would be high (any dealer is), but I thought that was absolutely ridiculous. I ordered a full set of Mintex pads this morning that will be here in 4-5 business days. $81.98 for parts, but I didn't think that was too bad. I just read andrew's post though and am having second thoughts. I'll probably just put these on and see how they work, but Andrew, what do you suggest for future reference?

I would agree with Andrew- our use of Mintex often resulted in squealing issues. We use Genuine and Ferodo for Rover, Jag and Ferrari and have had no noise issues. No doubt also that preparation of the caliper before the pads are fitted is essential to a succesful brake job.

correction the pads i have been using are axis pads made by mintex....i have been running them for 2 years now and no probelms...i just put a fair amount of anti squeel on the pads...
no squeeling. the brakes see heavy use with lots of of weight in the truck on our lengthy trips down into baja/mexico. i would guess they are the same as mintex... besides squeeling what problems are you experiencing?? cheers

Mintex has always squealed or worn prematurely for us too. We don't even offer them any more.
