I would have to agree with Matt.
Whenever I am showing off this website at work, I always show Kent's pics.
And the ones of the guy driving under the bridge. I forget who that is.

I forgot about that one.

Are Kent and Robert still active on this sight, or are their pictures just still here?

Well Matt, doing a search for posts from those two names, I found no posts listed. So my guess would be nope, they're not here, unless they are trolling. And i hope you guys are joking about that white Disco. That's a hunk of shit.

Thanks Adam.

I just looked up both of their names in the user list. Kent registered 10-7-03, and last posted 10-8-03. So I guess he put his pics up and that's it. Robert's not even on the user list.

It's probably just a show truck anyways.

1st place:

Jens Stormer's.

It's been the coolest places. 'nuff said.

2nd place:

The discoHo twinkie edition.

Despite being so often referred to as "HO'S" = Hunk Of Shit, I think it looks balanced and sharp, especially when wearing the XZLs. He's tried a lot of different stuff and gone through all the trends to settle on what works. Also not needlessly flexy. If he ditched the back seat and strapped everything down, it'd be pretty perfect IMHO, but I guess with daughters you need backseats.

Well the "badest" disco is tough to choose, I can tell you that BillB has one of the most "used" discos out there.

I have always been partial to Brian Jackson's truck--again on the well "used" theory.

Ron,

I don't know who Brian Jackson is, but I'm TOTALLY with you on the well "used" theory :-)

Just my opinion, but I think it would be a loss to own a Disco and not take full advantage of the benefits of using it for what it was made to do (with caution, of course).

so let's see here.....how many of the "bad ass" disco candidates mentioned thus far are not even operable?

LOL, that should tell you something right there

You want to see a truly "bad ass" disco? Just look at anyone enjoying a few days out in the middle of nowhere in a simple, unobtrusive truck wearing 235/85's or 245/75's (D1)...a truck that leaves home, gets the job done with style, then returns home.

Well said...

Maybe this thread should be titled... "Who has the most modified disco?"...?

Isn't that what "baddest" conveys anyway?

There's way to many "unique" and interesting discos on this sight to pick just one that I think is the "baddest."

there's a lot to be said for "a truck that leaves home, gets the job done with style, then returns home."

However, if you're looking for "baddest" this is one of my favorites:

BTW, I heard Mike's is inoperable at the moment also :-)

so, if these sex machines are inoperable, does that make them impotent sex machines?

P.S. Mike Peters' inoperability isn't really his fault....kind of a Lorena Bobbit situation...

I don't have the experience that most of you have, so my opinions at this stage could be way off.

Sometimes modifications feel like cheating, because they have only made it easier for me to get through the "more difficult" terrain so I can tag along and see really neat places following those who have built true and well honed skills.

From what I have seen, those with the highest skills are NOT driving the flashy Discos.

Again, this is just my opinion. However, I can say with all honesty that I have been paying way more attention to what is on the inside rather than what is visible on the outside.

Blue---I totally agree with you! My truck is stock and absolutely saved me yesterday in a moderately 'stupid' adventure situation....all I cared about was feeling safe and getting home...and we didn't even break anything! (Plus, my husband was following in his newly-acquired RRC and feeling the same way!)
I'll NEVER drive anything else.

I think it's cool to see someone take a stock LR off-road (whatever the terrain), especially if it's driven by a skilled driver. Looks very smooth and totally in its element.

By far my favorite would have to be Axles Truck, or Ho's XD for the following reasons:

A real Bad Ass truck should look like it could be all factory equipment. Not everdone and should get used. Axles truck wins out simply because he runs the alloys ( I like the look of stock alloys ) and I think the look of the ARB bar intergrated into the KVT bumper is the cleanest funtional front bumper out there. Also should have detriot/true track as it should of had from factory, truck can and is driven daily.

I like Ho's XD simlply because Xd's start-out cool and again it looks like all factory equipment complete with Detriot/true track. Again the KVT with factory brush bar is really clean. I think that is also driven daily. I also think it looks best when on factory alloys & BFG MT's

Don't care for all the sexy flexy stuff. Only seems to break stuff in a more spectacular way.

That's my 2 cents
GG

Hands down the baddest Disco. Has been through hell and back probably 15 times and ran with the rest of us through the Rubicon and Dusi on 245s. If you know Findlay then you also know that the poor little Disco is cut very little slack.... Its still going today after all the sex machines have broken down , been sold , parted out or simply fallen by the wayside...

Well, one thing that I have kind of given up on is debates like these. I don't really like the idea of trying to keep up with the Jones. Nor do I think that the baddest a__ Disco will help me all that much when on a trail or expedition. I will do much better to learn how to drive better than fancy mods to my truck. But, I still love those coil overs and articulation on Pollucks rig.

David,

No, it has been parked in Greenville, NC. I have had a few close looks at the undercarraige and I'm not too fond of what he has done there, it looks quite unstable and carelessly put together. I like the way his engine mods sound on paper, but if there done in any way like the bottem of his truck is, I'd be worried about kissing pistons at high revs. I don't even want to think about the transmission and the ass full of gear teeth it might dish out.

As for the baddest disco, I don't know. Based solely on sex appeal, I'd say Greg Davis's Disco II. I like his attention to detail and quality work.

Cheers,

Kennith

Since we brought 'Fenders into this -- Tom Bryan's (formerly of VA, now in WI) D90 is the baddest I've seen. Although it's no Freelander SE3 :-)

Mike Findlay's truck, which I haven't seen personally, fits my requirements. Long trip followed by intense wheeling, followed by a long trip home, without breaking down.

It took me several months to figure out that Disco was the abbreviation for Discovery.

Prior to that, I thought whoever ran the informative "rover site" was someone old who was still into disco dancing.

It seemed like an odd and unusual combination.

Duh...

Sounds like Kyle wants to get out and do some wheeling.. Been hanging out at home to much or you just been couped up in the office all day?

You got that Mustang running? I'm sure that would get the pulse going.. I don't have anything to prove so taking part in the "Bad Ass Disco" showdown wouldn't be my type of thing. I'd be up for some friendly wheeling though.

Well , the only reason I bring up the bad ass Disco thing is to clear it all up. I think the public perception of what is bad ass , and what truley is a bad ass truck , are two very different things.. WOuld be nice to actually show that...

Why are you glad we "got him," Kyle? Tom and his wife are very nice and I've enjoyed wheeling with him a great deal around here...did you know him when he was in VA?

I think this would be a great spot for a "grading system" (or whatever you want to call it) that was sort of discussed a few days ago on the importance and unimportance of certian add-ons and modifications. i.e. lockers/gears +4pts...HD springs, +3 pts... Big Warn stickers on your hood -2 pts.... '03 headlights in a D1 -4pts... Maybe something like that would better decide this. And you could add maybe reliability or roadworthyness, something like that to it.

To add a little bit to that scoring system:

(1) Stickers not related to actual products on one's truck (e.g., Warn sticker on truck, no Warn products on truck; Detroit sticker w/o a locker) : -500 points.

(2) Hard-shell spare tire cover : -750 points

(3) Running boards : -1000 points

(4) Chrome/stainless rear bumper : -600 points

:-)

Remember, we'd need a demerit system for having (generally accepted) "dumb" things on their truck...

My post was intended to show how silly a points system would be.

I agree -- there's nothing like actually wheeling to find out.

Farvin wanted everyone to know his side of the story:

Precisely - nor did we. Those pricks (who I didn't know blew out my winch by activating theirs while I was trying to recover them and pulling the rigging through the block.

Nothing needs to be cleared up about that day, except that it keeps getting brought up. Kyle ( and now you ) have brought it up unnecessarily years later.

I have no interest in being on Discoweb, and to suggest that five years after that day I need to "clear up" anything - especially for all you jokers is ridiculous.....

Rob Davison <nosivad_bor@yahoo.com> wrote:

cool.

you know what i'm talking about i'm sure. you guys
blew out that winch block at the pond and wanted some
kind of winch anchor thing with kyles truck which he
turned down...

that was some years ago when my truck was stock and i
didn't know dick about winching, except ya'll weren't
doing it right.

i did eventually build up my truck use it out west and
then had to sell when the economy went bad and money
was tight.

i've been building up my '89 RR cash only so things
stay under control.

if something needs cleared up about that winching let
me know or better yet sign up to discoweb and post.
Axel has to approve all the new accounts but i'll get
him to approve you first thing in the morning if you
want, unless you already have an account.

then i think he didnt like that reply:

Nope - just like people to know that if they get off bringing up years-old incidents for LOLs I have more ways and places to track them down off line to deal with the problem. In reading some of the posts these days (which I swear I haven't looked at in years) I can't believe how people occupy their time!

I like Steve's truck at Rovertym. It's like a wolf in sheep's clothing. Looking at it from a distance it does not look radical, but once you see it up close you notice the mods. It's not "overbuilt" but effective.

Kyle, you don't even know the guy's name?

Tom Farvin. It was right on his license plate. Anyway, since he and Rob made up it's probably best to let sleeping dogs lie -- the guy's not anywhere near you now and apparently that's for the best.

Sorry for reopening old conflicts -- didn't realize it'd get everyone started.
