Sometimes you just wonder "Why the hell did it take so long to think of this?" Until it breaks the bank, the Old North State is offering free memberships to all our servicemen and women here in North Carolina. We certainly hope to extend this for as long as there is an Old North State. It just seemed like the right thing to do. Thanks gents, ladies stay safe and good luck. Dan: The Rover God works in mysterious ways. Per chance some guys from the 130th Aviation(Apache helicopters) have emailed me this week about joining a LR club in NC. They are in Afganistan until June. Don't think they actually have LRs yet, somehow they became interested over there and are saving up all their pay. If they can keep Apaches flying I guess they can keep a LR on the road. Randall |

They can ride with me until they get one. I need to find a better navigator anyway |

Randall: They are most certainly welcome to join us at anytime. There are always open seats and folks willing to share the ride. It is good to hear from you sir. Dan |

The most coolest similar thing about helicopters and rovers is that you can get almost anywhere with them. No runways or roads needed. It has been my experience that the most difficult thing about transitioning to the ground is steep inclines. I have found it VERY DIFFICULT to stay comitted when I cannot see the horizon. That section of when I can't see the horizon and have no choice but to continue upwards until my rover nose comes over is downright creepy. It is the absolute worst when my ETC kicks in and my truck starts making all that noisy racket. I have to fight my automatic reflex of raising the collective and nudging the cyclic to lift up and away to clear the surface obstacle (which in this case is only the ground which I am supposed to stay ON). I have yet to even make it over the steep blacktop simulated rock behind my dealership without burning rubber. I get butterflies and feel fear just by looking at it from a distance. If all goes well, maybe someday I will manage to do decent ground navigation also? |
