Safety devices and hannibal are selling roof racks for north of 1K, and there are alternatives available for half the price. Hannibal have their rood top tent listed at 1200 aprox. Does anyone know of any where, or any companies that are selling more affordable roof top accomodations?

Cheers

Yep - if you want to save some groats you could go with the Kamp-rite - tent bed - this will fit on most roof racks with some mods - $199 from campmor.com

Tent bed is bigger and for $60 more you might just as well have a bit more room.

or you can have the cot and save $10

That's the first time I've seen that 2 person model. That looks nice.

ahh, i figured as much, being as similar in structure as they are. good idea. They'd be good on the ground also, keeping you up off the floor, never know what crawls over ur face when you're on the desert floor...

yep - totally agreed Jack - but not sure I'd use on eof these if I was going to venture into cold climates. Having said that I wouldn't use a roof tent in the colder temps.

Yep - don't blame you Jack - wish I could but with the hootchy monster (Boxer 50lbs and hyper) sleepng in the truck next winter - we're going to be relegated to tents. :-)

I think it'd be nice to have that tent bed, but putting it on the roof would be tough, and probably not worth the effort.

If you're flying solo, however, it is definitely tough to beat the TentCot on the LR roof rack.

Craig,

Every once in a while you post the most incredible pics. I'm thinking the last one I saw was a morning picture taken in the same area with a view from the ground.

Thanks for posting pic, I just gave a relaxed sigh looking at it. The sky is gorgeous - it looks like someone painted a pastel water color. That one belongs in a frame...

Awesome :-) Jamie

The two person version looks like it needs the ends to touch the ground to give better stability, which would be a problem with the sideways action on the roof.
Anyone actually tried it?

I was trying to find a cool tent shot that I took in Colorado a few years ago, but couldn't.

I did run across this one that I shot on the same trip. It's of my 95 with one of my Dual Sport bikes strapped on the back. That was a great trip.
