Garrett,
I have been to PR a few times while in the Navy. I am not much of a bar or beach person, but can recommend the Caverns in PR as a very interesting tour. Camuy Cave Park at (787) 898-3100.)

I also enjoyed walking around the fort in San Jaun. Fort San Gerónimo

The local shopping is not to bad either if you look hard for the good deals.

I will say you better watch out for traffic on the main highways...they don't follow normal driving laws over there....(no offense intended)

garrett,

when I go to PR I usually stay in San Juan. Old San Juan is good to see and is by where the majority of the hotels on the beach are located. The Marriott has gambling as well as a nice beach plus pool.

there is a Morton's steak house connected to the Hilton hotel. GREAT steak.

also a NH Site http://www.nps.gov/saju/index.htm

also Vieques Wildlife Refuge: http://www.nps.gov/saju/index.htm

have fun!

El Yunque (pronounced Joon K) is the Rain Forest there and it's worth checking out. Old San Juan is also cool and close by. Not trying to scare you or anything, but if you're renting a car, it's sort of an unwritten rule that you treat red lights like stop signs after dark. At least it was the last time I went a couple of years ago. Also, in terms of food, check out Ajilli Mojili (Pronounced a-heely mo-heely). Mortons is a safe bet, but Ajilli Mojili will give you a taste of the Island, don't be scared LOL. Ask your concierge to make a reservation for you. Have fun, and yes, I know my spanish stinks! LOL

yeh i was told by my 'companion' that there was a Mortons there. similar i suppose to ruth's chris steak house. and rob d. was telling me about the rain forest thing.
originally we were staying at the hilton, but now i am not sure. she was going to try and use her points for the room.
yeh i better brush up on my spanish a bit. like it already won't be obvious i am some clueless tourist. i always love playing that role.
thanks for the info guys. i am sure i will check those places out.

Mortons is better than ruth chris, ruth chris sucks in KOP though I am told the one in N.O. is a lot better.

Garrett, there is a Morton's in Pittsburgh. It's the best meat I ever ate. The center cut was like butta. Definately go there but you might want to bring some extra bills, cheap it ain't.

rob. you know how i feel about pissburgh. just a bunch of rednecks stuck in a city with nothing but football and old pontiac firebirds to talk about. i try and resist my natural instints to come there burn the whole fucking city down. haha.
how can a place like Morton's survive there? only rich people with Range Rovers like yourself can afford it suppose. you taking all those foreign ladies there acting like the Godfather?

rob: "Bring me more bread damit....NOW!"

"I said a Fresca with a lime NOT a lemon!!"

shit man i ain't taking lots of cash. she is the sugar momma and i am along for the ride. :-)

San Juan is nasty - see Old San Juan and get out. El Yunque, Fajardo, Phosphorescent Bay, and Ponce are worth your time. Ponce is much nicer, cleaner, and safer than SJ, there's actually quite a culutural difference since it is primarily Native Indian influence and SJ is Spanish influence.

Eat pasteles while you're there - the look may terrify you, but they are scrumptious. All PR food is very good and mild, they don't use the hot spices like Mexican or Cuban cooking. Pernil (pork roast), tostones (fried plantain), arroz con gandules (rice and green pigeon peas), it's all excellent.

Drink local rum other than Bacardi, it's actually very good. Bacardi is to rum what Iron City is to beer.

And your horse naturally won,....."

Rob,

I won a $200 gift certificate for Morton's. Can't wait to hit that meat.

Garrett,

make sure you sample some of the fine Cigars available down there....if you know what I mean.
