We filed our taxes early February (e-file), the next day we got a rejection notice back because my birthdate on record for the IRS did not match the date that the Social Security Administration has.
Seems that this is a new thing they are doing this year, cross checking records.
After calling the SSA I discover they have the wrong date on file. Now I am having to jump through hoops to get it fixed, it's been almost a month they still haven't fixed it, and I can't file until they do. If anyone plans on waiting till the last minute to file your taxes, you could be in for a surprise if they have yours screwed up too. The worse part is that I have a huge refund due that I can't get.

THAT HAPPENED TO ME TOO! But the SSA didn't have my married name on file.
I went to the SS office, gave them the necessary forms and then resubmitted the tax forms about 5 days later. We were accepted and just received our refund yesterday.

Keep on it and good luck! I agree about the last minute thing...we did our about a month and a half ago!

I took them all of the forms and proof of ID as well, but they had to verify everything with the state. I gave them an original birth certificate, a passport and a drivers license all stating my correct DOB yet they still couldn't accept any of it. It is just a hassle.

James-

Cross checking to keep the bad guys out I assume. Certainly not my business but could you claim more allowences and have the money during the year rather than getting a huge refund? Just a thought.

Speaking of taxes, don't forget that if you bought a Rover this year and use it even partly for business you can write off THE WHOLE THING this year! That is why our company keeps buying Rovers...the GVW is 6000lb+!

Tim, our allowances are right, but last year we...bought a house, sold a house and started a business, so we had lots of deductions...Thanks for the tip though.
