I'm planning on starting my fall deer hunt scouting in the next month or so and thought you guys may have had good or bad experiences with spotting scopes and could recommend a good one. As with everything in the world the prices for spotting scopes range from $50 to $1600. Money is, of course, somewhat of an object, but I would much rather pay for a good scope than have to replace it every year with a cheap one. I have been looking at a $300 Bushnell 12x60 that looks pretty nice plus it comes with the tripod an backpack. Thanks in advance

you might want to look into a marine type scope. water proof and fog resistant. some have low light functions and distance to functions. heading indication the works. just a thought

I had a Bushnell Spacemaster and it was a pretty good scope. It was one of the older ones without the zoom eyepeice. The optics were clear (even with a barlow installed at extreme magnification) and it was built like a tank.

I can't comment on the newer versions of the same scope except like everything else in the world they are probably less rugged and of cheaper construction. From what I have heard though is that they may still be a quality scope.

You may want to do a search on e-Bay and see whats offered there.

Thanks for the information everybody and thanks for the site adrian. I went back to look again and compared a couple models. I'm now off the Bushnell kick and thinking about a Nikkon. The price is a little more, but the guy behind the counter (not commission based) said it was really a better scope. Any thoughts? Anyone have a particular scope they love?
