Hey everyone, I recently purchased an 03 Disco II and would like to increase the ponies under the hood. I've found some simple modifications online such as CAI, exhaust, ect. Are these worth the trouble & time to install? Any suggestions or comments will be appreciated. Thanks

Search the board! The topic has come up many times. There are also many opinions. Even on the small stuff like putting in a new K&N.

IMHO, a stainless exhaust would be good if you're in the rust belt, and a less restrictive air filter. After that you may or may not get a good ROI on the money spent to hop up the motor.

"Would like to increase the ponies under the hood"

Why and how much more power are you looking for.
Rovers are not known for their HP you should have looked at VW or BMW. Anyways look in the resources under vendors there are places in there that can help.
Try RPI

I realize Land Rovers are not known for their hp, thats why I asked. I just need some suggestions on the aftermarket on these SUVs. I'm not going to go out and strap on an Eaton on this thing. Also a VW & BMW have about as much hp as my weedeater.

Put in a new engine and drivetrain.
Everything else yields insignificant gains

Try RPI or Aluminiumv8.com. I think RPI are advertising somewhere in the region of 400bhp. FWIW I wouldn't really go for a significant increase in 'ponies'. But to each his (or her) own. I'm taking it that fuel consumption is not a primary concern.

My own personal preference is to increase reliability/longevity.

Stainless Exhaust (absolutely - especially in high salt areas).
Chip up kit ($490 is alot - what about reliability afterwards)
K&N (this has been dealt with on the board)

FWIW I'm looking at engine mods like below (until I get to the stage that I swap the engine out for a diesel).

a) Oil by pass filter (kleen-oil) - still looking into this one but haven't heard anything bad yet.
b) Magnacor wires - another few thousand and the originals will need replacing.
c) Maybe solid lifters and roller rockers - standard cam grind.
d) Hi-Cap radiator
e) Tubular exhaust manifolds (try welding a cast manifold up - especially in the middle of nowhere)

Hope that helps

regards

Jeff

Thank you Jeff Mclaird for your info. I really appreciate your feedback. As far as adding a roots blower to the picture, I'll wait until the warranty is long gone, I don't wanna fry the rings just yet on a new vehicle. Again, thanks, and if your ever in the DFW area, send me an email. I'll buy ya a beer..
