I am looking for a nice, legal, safe, yet challenging place to take my school's off road club for a weekend outing of trail manners and off road technique.
We are in Myrtle Beach, and would like to find something within a few hours drive.
Uwharri is a possibility, but it is 5 hrs away. Anybody know of anything closer?

 Greg,

I've been looking all over the place in SC for trails. They are few and far between in this state. I know of a place a little bit closer in NC to you. I think Paul Morgan has been there but I haven't.

I am on the other side of the state so I am mainly looking over here for stuff. But if I do stumble upon anything I'll let it be known.

 Thanks.
We usually hit the old Air Force Base. There are lots of trails there. Still don't know if it is legal or not, but it is a pretty popular place.
I just don't want to lead a bunch of my students there if it is not "tehcnically" legal.

SE North Carolina would be close, too, if anyone knows of a place.

 Greg,

Here is the place I was talking about:

 http://www.cnc4x4.org/trails/croatan_tr.htm

 I pulled it from here:

Thats all I got right now. I know of a few little places on Western NC that are good for a little drive but those are still very far from where you are.

 I'll keep my eyes open.

 Max T.

 Max,

The Croatan is a mosquito infested swamp where the locals like to sling mud at one another.

 Greg,

There is a moto track in Sanford that dealers like to take the soccer moms to. Besides all the beaches (ft. fisher), I can't think of anything other than Uwharrie or Tellico.

IF you want to see pics of the Croatan mud go to http://www.capefearrovers.com/ There is Boiling Springs lakes which can be fun, but not a real challenge. The water crossings tend to be fun but after 50 of them they get old also. It is a good place for newbies.
