At least old people who can't drive, anyway. This old lady hit me in the parking lot @ walmart. I eased out of a parking spot and she flew outa nowhere and slammed into my left front corner. Then her husband gets out and screams and yells at me for "speeding and cutting corners." I'm trying to do the right thing, checking to see if they're both ok, and he yells at me that his wife is hurt. So I try to check her out and he demands to see my licnese and registration. Like i'm gonna hand over my stuff to some old guy who just hit me. So I got back in my disco and called the cops. The cop was awesome, he said that technically it was my fault, but he lowered the damage estimate to $1k, the upper limit for a non-reportable collision on private property.

So... my bumper's bent to shit, I've got some old guy screaming at me, my buddy is pointing out a half-naked chick in the parking lot, and the cop says good luck, you're on your own.

So I'm sitting in the parking lot ripping the plastic off my bumper and duct-taping my headlight back in place (or trying, the tape didnt like the mud), while my friend laughs at me and won't hold my maglight still (yes, the one featured in the "i want a gun post", lol) because she's laughing too hard.

So.... at this point, I'm kicking my bumper, trying to get the thing away from my tire. I ended up wrapping my tow chain around the bumper and flagging down a girl in a pick-up to pull it away. <sigh>

So, um yeah.... I had a great evening.

on the bright side, I might be able to get an rte slimline..... lol. But, its coming out of my pocket, since it was on private property.

<sigh>

Poor disco :-(

You know that in PA it's okay to shoot people for fender benders. :-)

Happened to me too at WalMart in Terre Haute. The cop sided with me because he liked my "Toyota Land Rover" and told the lady that she should just move on because her car is probably only worth $300 and it would cost that to fix her bumper that she alleged I damaged (instant rust btw).

Remember that body damage just makes the disco look cooler.

Dave, Bummer man. I took a hit myself today. Just lit the grill for some burgers. Door bell rings, it's Mrs. Neighbor lady. She had just wrinkled the rear end of her Cherokee on my truck. My back bumper is tweaked for sure. Had to be cool about it though. Last snow fall her husband came over late at night to help dig me out, and ruined his John Deere snow blower on my tire chains in the process. What can you do? Upgrade like you said.

Pity about bender though.

I live near rossmoor, it's where all the old people on the bay area land. I've discovered they either drive so slow you can walk faster, or they drive like they have no controll of the car and are trying to kill you. I think they should confine them all to the short buses.

Cheers

Jack

Its the old'ns that pull out from a side entrance straight onto the fast lane of the highway, cutting everyone up and then driving at 50 while people pass on the inside at 80, that piss me off most.

I still wonder how anyone that dumb can actually control a car at all....

But crashing coz of letching at girls - that's acceptable:-)

You guys have no clue what Old People are. Try coming and spending one week in South West Florida during season. Geez. Just imagine if all your old people were not down here and were at home in the winter. At least your population drops this time of year. Mine increases 3 to 4 times.

Takes me up to 2 hours to drive 18 miles home from work during season, mostly because of the early bird dinner crowd.

Greg - oh yeah? How about old wify driving before or after you in one of them huge cars on some seriously bald tyres, when road is covered in snowpack? :-) IN mountains? :-)

Just remember - one day you gonna be in same bucket. Appreciate time you got left till then :-) (i.e do not rush to pass half naked girls in parking lot. Take time to stop, get out and hook up :-))

The big thing that gets me is that the accident was listed as my fault. I had come to a complete stop before the lady hit me.

Oh, and she hit me hard enough to smash my front stock recovery point flat against my frame. And the old man yelled at me for speeding.....

He also demanded to see my license and registration --- in VA only uniformed officers can ask for that ... oh, and the cop gave the man a little talk about being rude to other people. :-)

one more interesting note: my buddy pointed out the girls after, not before the accident -- and my buddy is female :-)

"You know that in PA it's okay to shoot people for fender benders."

Well if you reasonably believed that she was attempting to ram you that is assault with a deadly weapon, self-defense to prevent a felony. . . maybe :-)

Seriously no of course not, but in Louisanna you can shoot carjackers.

Ron

My friend who lives in West Palm Beach, FL says that old people down there are SO dangerous. As an example, he says that there is this 7-Eleven right at a T intersection, he says that every season, there is some crazy old person that runs over the concrete barrier, through the parking lot, and into the store. Every season, he sees them replace, and further re-enforce the barrier and replace the glass.

Porter - i can suggest those anti-tank "hedgehogs" to them. I.e star shaped construction welded from train rails, about 6-8' tall. Guaranteed to stop heavy tank, let alone old bod in whimpy car :-)

"I think they should confine them all to the short buses"

we have "RTC Citilift" but it "Depends" on whether or not they want to ride the short bus. Not all old people want to admit that they can't drive. It's been a big part of there life for a long time.

it's freedom...

I'm still more scared of a 17 year old in an Eclipse.
