The question is this: Did you finish the trail, or was that the end of your trip?

Now, can you answer the $10,000 questions?

Did insurance cover it?

What did the adjustor have to say?

How about your parents? :-)

No, I'm a has been Jeeper, sold my YJ so that I could buy the Rover.

No the insurance didn't cover it, I didn't ask.
No, my parents didn't pay for it, its still all dented. :-)

Yes I am kinda happy because it was something that I have always wanted to experience, rolling over that is. :-)

Even worse than being recovered by a Jeep, was the fact that my buddy drove around me with his 98 TJ so that he could pull me back over!!

Yes, it did end the trip, but I finished the trail, I had broken a front axle shaft on Double Whammy before that so I couldn't very well do anything difficult.

Dave, my dad was in his Rubicon right in front of me and he watched the whole thing go down (literally)! He just laughed and offered to drag me up the obstacle on my side,,, I declined.

man we rolled a 67 109 five door while doing 55 mph! was it a pretty fricking mess. yes! both people were knocked up pretty badly 4 and a half turns. crimpled like a can. "always wanted to be in a roll over" ? invest in a custom cage FWIW!

dhk,
Little off topic but, would you mind telling me what those two beastly engines in your profile pic belong to?

High preformance speed boat perhaps?

Sure looks like a lot of work went into them.

yes, thats my boat! wellcraft! shes out of the water right now awaiting spring launch! which is april 12th. cant wait. doing bottom coat this weekend and a all around cleaning.
nothing like the big blocks and quality of marine products. and the sound of em purring, really there are few rules to follow on the water and once you clear the channal its all power and speed! should i fabricate a mounting bracket for my rovers? no i like the rover just the way it is. slow and trail worthy! LOL see ya all on the water!

Damn Sean, that is one way to find out your tipping point and at least it's another trail experience to learn how to recover yourself.

Wow Sean, that's not cool. Glad it happened on the trail. I got run off the road a year ago by a pick-up and rolled my beloved Disco 2x. Walked away without a scratch but the Rover was a total loss. The impact was right on the roof over the driver's seat. Did a real good job banging the car up (broke all the windows but the rear one and collapsed the roof to the driver's headrest) but the Disco did its job of protecting the occupant. Never want to experience that again.

Sean,
How about showing us some after pics of the RRC on its wheels. How extensive is the damage?

dhk, (what's your name?)

That boat sounds like lots of fun. I know it must haul ass with those 2 engines, but how fast? What's your top speed?

man, let me tell you, any boat hauls ass. when i was a kid we used to dick around in little boats with 2 hp engines. that would keep us busy all wekend long! now running well over 600 horse i can say it puts a smile on your face. BUT if you think that rover parts are expensive! wow there is no cheep line for marine quality. at over 20 grand and engine why would any one consider the cheeper parts. and fuel is sucked up like a kid sith a milk shake! the cost of fuel on the water is always higher too! anyway i guess anyone can build a fast car. but only a hand full can build a fast boat! there is just something about boats that crank the gears in my head. the engines, the graphics, speed, not really cops around, sorts like pirates i guess , no rules maybe controlled anarchy, who knows. dont get me wrong, i would take a chopped fifties merc, lowered and dialed in anyday. but maybe some day soon!

A buddy rolled this 95 RRC LWB on a trek in Baja Mex. Insurance paid him fully. Towed it from the trail off the mountains. Not a scratch on the driver! http://www.roverholic.com/images/600_El_Oasis_094.jpg

Thanks Gadd, I was hoping my wreck wouldn't show up on this thread. :-)

That was one of the worst nights of my life; it is not something I ever want to experience again.

If you ever go to Mexico though, stop at bajabound.com first and get an insurance policy. They use nadaguides.com to determine Fair Market Value, so look up your vehicle there to determine insurance value.

Not bad for your first attempt but you only score 2 points out of 5 from me! A roll over definately needs a minimum of 20% roof damage?..lol. With the roof rack and windsheild surviving...It appears to me that you performed a lay over, next time use more speed...and always remember to wear your seat belt!

I have seen the white Disco rollover pics, they had to winch it front to back I think, to get it out. I think he actually drove the thing to the road...

I've been fortunate, never witnessed anything worse than a Disco going over on its side, and even that was so gentle that it was barely scuffed - Area 51 in SoCal

Just out of sheer curiousity -- what does it take to get a rolled truck back on the road?

Just in case the situation arises... I'd rather drive back to civilization than be stranded and walking...

I figured I'd post this under non-tech since it hasn't actually happened and I'm only asking out of curiousity. And if you guys are talking about it and have pics, perhaps you know...

Depends on how badly it rolled. If it just went over on its side just roll it back on the rubber and drive on. You may have some scuffs / broken windows / mirrors / etc on the side that had contact.

If it did a full roll, then the windows, etc, will be busted out and the roof crunched in - but if you remembered to turn the engine off as you went over then the engine and drivetrain will probably still be in decent enough shape to get back to the trail head with a little help (the you call AAA).

The green one on its side above only rolled onto its side. The only damage was to the side mirror and ego. I think the ego was damaged more than the vehicle overall. I was suprised that there was no glass damage or dents. It did smoke quite a bit once we got it back on its feet. He drove it home.
