However I've heard from people in the media that have been told the Bronco was most likely to end up in the Land Rover line.

 It's the thought that counts

 LR is the next Lincoln/Mercury

Save the Rovers you have, within the next 5 years LR will no longer be a distinguishable brand.

Ford may own Land Rover but it doesn't mean Land Rover aren't aware that their reputation is at stake with every new vehicle they re-lease. The current defender is basicly the very best of Land Rover enginering from the early 80's. I'd have to think that the new defender, whether it be the concept "bronco" or something we havn't even seen concepts of yet, will be the best land rover build to date. Have a little faith. I think they've done a pretty awesome job with their product line the last 55 years. ;)

 Cheers

 Jack

Bronco or not, that little truck there is one bad ass rig. I doubt there's a person here who would object to one of those materializing on their driveway...

Nope! The next Bronco will be built on the Ford Escape platform. At least the Bronco concept at Detroit was and Nick Scheele Fords President suggested that Bronco would be built on the Escape platform.
It has been suggested that Defender would be built on a modified new Discovery/LR3 platform.

I disagree, neither Jaguar or Aston Martin seem to have lost any of their DNA since they joined the Ford Gene pool.
And certainly Land Rover has a better parental guardian now than British Leyland ever was.

I wouldn't say the X-Type has been flying off the shelf though or any of the new models for that matter. At least around here they haven't.

Well, this concept Defender/Bronco LOOKS like it might be tough enough to fit the bill off road, but looks can be deceiving. From what I've read, the plan at Ford is to equip the new Bronco with nitrous oxide injection to give it "street cred" with the high-rev tuner crowd. That doesn't exactly bode well for off road.

yup, exactly the point in case: jag X-type (formerly known as mercury tracer, ford whetever) is a good example of what ford did to jag. its quite sad, but the ultimate qualities of the end product are not always the paramount of a car manufacturer. ford wants to sell as many as they could in the most inepensive way to them. current discos are a tad pricey to them on maintanance. exploders are *a lot* cheaper to maintain. i am not surprised at al, just saddened.

I like it. But then again, the reason I own an LR now is because it is a decent daily driver that can go play on the woods and haul a lot of crap doing it. I would never even attempt to take an Explorer into the places the Pig has been (which are pretty mild compared to others on this BBS).

That pic of the LR up top is nice. Give me a big powerful V8, solid axles, cut back on the computers; then sign me up.

BTW it is a chop - this has been bouncing around a number of boards. However if done right would probably be a great ride. However (again) if the D3 is a taste of the stuff to come - then I won't be buying any new LR's. Mrs M will be driving a series, Unimog or Pinzgauer instead... well she keeps saying she wants a minivan

If she wants a minivan, get her one- it's called a 101FC with the radio body on it.
