None:-)

You sweat, you curse, you listening to your vehicle.
Also loud music is not nice to environment and other wheelers (i once wheeled next to guy who been listening to some HM stuf with upgraded subs - it did suck).

On very easy trail/way back - some russian bards or ye old good Jazz Cafe channel on Sirius will do trick:-)

Depends where you are, Sergei. I'd agree if you're on a heavily used forest trail near houses and stuff, keep it down. But I usually cruise BLM service roads, and there ain't nothin better than lightin' up a Marlboro and crankin' some music after a long day...

The Cure, Joy Division or Mogwai are good trail tunes.

Nope. Always listening to tires and truck. Even after the trail is done and I am wondering if I broke something.

I kinda agree with both sides. I like some music but I think you really have to be able to listen to what is going on underneath you. Regardless of my opinion, here are some of what I would put on a CD
Fast:
Ozzy Crazy Train/ Metallica Fuel/ Tim McGraw Comfort Me /U2 Mission Impossible/ Chris Cagle Chicks Dig it
Slow:
Alan Jackson When Daddy let me drive/ OAR black rock/ Brad Paisly Mud on the Tires/ Bone Thugs and Harmony Crossroads

Ok that is a random list
Hope you like it :-)

Marc and Tim - were with ya'll. With two girls it is constantly
I'm hungry...
I'm bored...
When are we going to get out to play?...
I'm thirsty...
I'm hot...
or my favorite I HAVE TO GO POTTY!!!!!

However, in our truck music helps drown them out so we do like to have the tunes on. We like AC/DC, Nine Inch Nails, Metallica, George Thurogood, LED ZEPPLIN Of course, Eagels, Janes Addiction, Aerosmith, Fuel, 3 Doors Down, Cold Play, old school dance music, and I can't forget good ole' Hank Williams jr., Garth, & Alan Jackson, etc... We like just a good mix to fit the mood!!!

My radio is always off when I'm on the trail. I like to listen to my truck like others have said before.

BUT... If I was to listen to music...

Mushroomhead (kick ass band)
Static X (kick ass band)
Motogrator
Slipknot
Chimaira (very kick ass band)
Killswitch Engage
Opeth

Just a short list of what I like. It gets the blood running a little faster too...

Wouldn't recommend it for you folks with little kids though... (obviously) :-)

Godsmack is ool if you're doing something intense -- navy used a song in a commercial

Metallica, definitely

AC/DC if you're into the old-school rock, good all-around travel music

"Adrenaline" by gavin rossdale is a favorite, too

Normally I tend to listen for a crunching or dragging sound, though :-)

Geez -- I just realized I forgot a couple classics

country - "Chicks Dig It" Chris Cagle - awesome song :-) (even if you don't like country, it fits)

quote:

Scars heal... glory fades
And all we're left with are the memories made
Pain hurts, but only for a minute
Yeah life is short so go on and live it
It don't matter if you lose or if you win it
Hey the chicks dig it
Oh yeah
Chicks dig it

Papa Roach - esp the Infest CD

Felix - please tell me you know that Ride Of Valikries isnt song from that movie, but bit of classic music :-) And smokin' will kill you. I am actually havent seen as much smoking people as i do in Colorado since my latest visits to Estonia&Russa - whats up with that?

Marc - lol.. I am wheeling with 2 years (he is hitting 3 in two weeks) :-) His normal replics during wheeling "hey big rocks" "i like big rocks" "i want to wheel" "papa wheel" "i wanna eat" (at which point he is stuffing himself with carefully prepared meal. Then he collapse. His greatest sleep was over entire length of Imogene Pass Trail :-))

Sergei -- Of course, of course... but I'd say most people in my age range of 18-25 would recognize it more from pop culture than from Wagner :-) As for smoking... well I guess we all have our vices. You only live twice, right?

Rob- Flaming Lips, hell yeah. Clouds Taste Metallic is one of the better rock albums this side of the 80s.

Rap for the fast stuff:
Twista-Eminem-D12-Ludacris-Tupac-50 Cent-sometimes you have to go back to the snoop/dre/beastie boys/ice cube classics.
Country for the slow stuff:
Clint Black-"Like the Rain" <-favorite song
Tim McGraw-Garth Brooks
If you are wheelin a new trail that you have to concentrate on or with your wife/girlfriend/weekend thing that insists on talking about "your relationship" (i.e., what you gotta do different) then you have to go with classical, it increases your IQ so you can concentrate and calms you down so you dont put her on the roof rack

Good hip-hop to bump from a Rover that might not make everyone immediately lose respect for you (if they know anything about music):

Big L, Nas, Mobb Deep, Notorious BIG, Cam'ron, The RZA, Jay Z, Razel (and the Roots), Fugees, OutKast, some old Wu Tang, and old Gangstarr (Moment of Truth, not Full Clip). Some Inspectah Deck and Guru, too. The Masses are good if you like politically themed rap.

When wheelin, if I am listinin to music at all, I like my freedom songs:
Tom Cochrane "life is a highway"
Big Audio Dynamite, "Free"
same titla by the Soup Dragons,
Bon Jovi, "It's my Life",
And various other songs on my escape mix.
I especially like the line in Big Audio Dynamites, "free", which goes, "and I never want to see another shopping mall."

Normal driving I go for anything rock, rap, punk, or Ska: love some of Eve 6, Sum 41, Reel Big Fish, Beastie Boys, Run DMC, and more.

So, what's wrong with havin subs in a rover Felix?

I'm a musician and love music but if your listening to music while your four wheelin' you are either on very easy trails(and there is nothing wrong with that) or you are not in tune with what you are doing. No pun intended. If your not listening to your vehicle on the tuff stuff thats insane because the sounds tell you a lot. Don't get me wrong you can watch tv without sound and tell whats going on but you get the whole picture when you can here it too. Classic rap!?

And OAR, dude I wear them out. I can go for some "Black Rock" or "The Wanderer" anytime.

Steve -- good call, was about to answer that myself.

The Gourds are actually a fantastic band for any Phish fans that like bluegrass/folk/country fusion music.

When off-road, I'm usually listening to the CB. Now that my boys are 8 and 11 it is most entertaining to let them try and talk on the CB.

Nonetheless, the best music for off-road or country road driving is one of Robert Earl Keen, Jr.'s live albums (No. 2 Live Dinner is best) or something by Stevie Ray Vaughan

I completely forgot about Dispath.

" We believe that he is you and that is your flaw"

The best trail music would have to be early Dead(67-71). Pigpen ruled!! I've always been partial to disc 1 of "Two from the vault" This way I don't have to here the creaks and rattles from underneath the truck.

-Primus: "Wynona's big brown beaver"
-Ram Jam: "Black Betty"
-Crosby, Stills and Nash: "Southern Cross"
-Boobie Browne: "Toe Jam"
-Howard and the White Boys: "I got my mojo working"
-Allman Brothers Band: "Jessica"
-Tantric: "Breakdown", "Hey Now"
-Limp Bizkit: "Take a Look Around"
-Charlie Daniels: "Devil went down to Georgia"

Just a few from my offroad playlist. The Gourds "Gin and Juice" is also a great tune.
