I want to get a new printer to print, scan and copy. Photo quality up to 5x7 would be enough. It would be nice to keep it under $150.00 if possible. Any recommendations?

 Thanks!

Hey.. My roommate has the HP PSC 2175 All-in-One .. I think he paid about 200 for it, but I've seen it in Staples recently for around $150 after rebate.. The quality on it is very good.. I'm a graphic designer and am still pleased with the output it produces.. the speed is great too. There are two models though, one with fax and memory card slots, and another with just copy/print/scan .. he got the copy/print/scan one.

You're best bet to figure out what you want though, is to go to an electronics store and run the sample pages.. that way you'll know exactly what are you getting.

I've had the HP PSC 2410 Photosmart since the Fall. I had two other HPs before that and they truly sucked. I swore I'd never buy another, but I tried one more time. This one has been a work horse. I think HP might have finally gotten it right. Don't know the retail on it these days, I think it was in the $300s when I bought it. There was another model at the time that was REALLY inexpensive and decent, something like $100.00 after rebate, but there was no built-in fax machine, which I needed. Good luck.

I've had a number of brands, but for truly good quality your options are HP, HP, and HP. They have a number of different models that will take care of your needs. Visit their website or Staples, Office Depot, etc. and pick the one best for you, but be real leary of Brothers, Dell, Epson, etc. HP seems to have their act together on this technology. Ray

In my experience with all-in-one printers, none of them seem to be photo quality. They're alright for scaning and printing out lower quality documents, but I've never really been happy with a picture that was printed out on an all-in-one. I would go with an HP though. Just my $.02

Ive always steered clear of all-in-one machines for two reasons. First, most reviews Ive read point out that they do all functions ok, but none really well. Second, if something goes wrong with the printing component youve lost the scanner and vise versa.

Buying a scanner and printer separately would be the way to go to me. More options for a little more cost. As for the copier, there are plenty of programs that will allow a separate scanner and printer to function as a copier.

I've been happy with the combo fax/printer/scanner/copier jobs as a second printer. I like the laser printers as a cheap primary printer, the ink jets are just too expensive per sheet.

An advantage of the all-in-one v. separate units is you can do things like make a copy or send a fax without having the computer powered up or even connected.
