Allright guys. Your help has been great so far now the test. I saw a Pinzgauer, and now I am comparing it against a series IIA 88. Take the good looks of the series out and what do you guys think the differences are what I should be aware of.

A Pinz is really capable off-road. But, it's even more beastly. Don't get me wrong, a Series is a glorified tractor, lol, but is more like a passenger vehicle. A Pinz is purely functional. Series have a charm to them, a classy personality.

Think James Bond versus Arnold Schwarzenegger...

You could use the Series as a daily driver if need be, but a Pinz would just be ridiculous, IMHO, to go out to eat, or to the grocery store....

If you're looking for something for trail-use only, the Pinz might suit.... the Series is much more versatile.

IMHO, FWIW.....

no way, the pinz is way better. have you ever seen or driven one? more HP, more torque, 5spd full syncro trans, lockers front and rear, independent suspension all around (better ride), and lots more room, EXCELLENT driving position, and who can forget the german/austrian quality. IMO dont go spouting off about pinzgauers before you have researched them for a long time like i have, they are awesome trucks and are better suited to daily driving than a series II. maybe not a series III, but a series II.

Weldkid - have you used a Pinz as a daily driver? or is it just your honest opinion ( based on research ).

Yes, I have, and like I said, it'd be great off-road. However, I'd drive my Series daily on the road before I'd put up with a Pinz on a daily basis... IMHO! If you think different, great, go buy a Pinz..... I'll keep my Series.

I don't know you: do you own a Pinz? Do you own a Series? Do you go to European competitions in them? I've got a friend that imports Pinz who whacked his Pinz pretty seriously in the Transylvania Trophy, who is the same fella that got me into Series Rovers....

I agree, it's quite a capable vehicle. But, it is completely uncivilized. I'm not claiming that a Series Rover is ideal for rolling up to the red carpet.... "it IS a glorified tractor"... but no, you can't load the family into a Pinz and go out to dinner.

And, I wouldn't claim that my SIII is more civilized than a SIIa.... it has more plastic, but it's still a Series.... it really appears that you don't own either vehicle, yet you're accusing me of spouting off about them, when you don't know what I know or don't?

my personal view, the pinz is a great offroad vehicle. wouldn't mind buying one as a second or third vehicle.
but when i go out on the town i don't want to feel like i'm storming a beach or i'm stuck in an endless loop of "return to castle wolfenstein". then there's the girlfriend factor, she's doesn't own a bit of camo...

my opinion is based on research, and my series rover opinion IS based on owning a 1964 IIA 88". they are totally different vehicles, and i guess that in my own opinion i would rather drive a pinz every day than a series every day.

and as to vince's roll, a series truck with a hardtop would have survived way better than that. quite frankly, his roll cage was a POS, i know this from the way that the joints popped apart during the roll. i met him once many many years ago and he is an excellent fellow, i liked him a lot. he has a very nice late IIA and i believe in his own opinion he likes the pinzies better.

thats my opinion.

Although I do drive a S3 109 (soft top ex-MOD) everyday, I wouldn't mind driving a Pinz everyday to school. But then again, I am young and insane (hence the Series 3 :)). Heck, I would die to have a Duece and a half to drive everyday!!

Yes, I do believe in everything except the dense forest (i.e. lots of trees close together) the Pinz would open up a can on the good ole' series rover. Unfortunately, most of the pros end there.

OK, try to picture driving this thing everyday: Start out trying to make a left hand turn onto a busy street. The spaces that are availible are just barely big enough for a 109, forget the Pinz. OK, get going...The 87hp engine is similar in performance to the series engine, then add a couple thousand pounds extra pulling power and performance goes way downhill. OK, get to school. The entrance to the lot is very small, I have to run over the curb just to get my 109 in there, so, the bushes and other shrubs that belong to dictator, I mean headmaster is destroyed. Detention (the people at my school just love detentions). Then try to park that thing in the tight parking spot. Can't thus, Ticket.

OK, school is over, and I decide to go to Barnes and Nobles to check out the newest Rover mags. Get there, small parking spaces, thus, hit a Merc or something. All of a sudden insurance goes up and no more driving...

I could go on, but I don't think I will :). I would love to have a Pinz, but unless you got the money and will to burn on it, I would suggest a rover.

Max T.
I will currently stick to my 109 until money comes :)

"his roll cage was a POS"

Humm, he rolled down a mountain and the passeger compartment was in one piece.

works for me.

I would get a C303

Why is it that someone can't ask a simple question without the thread turning into an OFF TOPIC PIECE OF SHIT THREAD.

Vince's is a SIII, w/ a diesel engine and a late IIa grill.....

And yes, he prefers a Pinz offroad anymore.....

Don't misunderstand me, I wasn't dissing the good points of a Pinz.... but a Rover has advantages....

to the kid who was comparing a 109 to a pinz (710 i assume), the pinz is much much much much much smaller and easier to handle, just look at the dimensions and turning circle. a pinz only has a wheelbase of around 85".

lol....

Vince had his 3-axled Pinz at MAR, and it dwarfed Max's soft-top 109"....

Well, I was more comparing to the one with the six wheel drive. I like the 6x6 (and the more room) and thus I was comparing those two. I would think that the 6x6 would be a better expedition vehicle (more room, probably better off road performance, etc.). I was comparing the 6x6 just because it is the only one I've seen.

Thomas, go look at one. If you like it, buy it. If you don't figure out something else. No one here on the board knows you better than yourself. Thus, only you can make the decision. My opinion doesn't mean squat if you don't like the Pinz or even the series for that much. Go, drive it, look at it, crawl around on it and then decide. If you are curious repeat the same for a Series rover.

This is the only tried and true way of determining what vehicle you want.

P.S. Greg, can you get me some 4000s? :):):)

Yep, that Pinz was a good deal size bigger than my good ole' 109. I bet it didn't get stuck as much though :). I also bet that the gearshift lever didn't break off either :(. Oh well....

I tell ya what weldkid, if the Pinz is that good, you can come and take my Series 3 away and give me a Pinz. Then I will agree with ya :).

And it better have 6 wheel drive!

Max T.
Money can fix just about anything :), but if you can magically put the gearshift lever back on while spending no money, well then you got a really good trick :):):)
