Has anyone had experience with one of the re-geared T-cases that Rover's North is selling for $1,125.00? They say the low range is unchanged, but high range is re-geared to add something like 30% more highway speed. Could be a different option than the overdrive, but hopefully there would be a cheaper way to do it. The transfer cases are pretty easy to get to, maybe one could find the gear set somewhere and have a local shop change them out?
Thanks,
Enoch

rovers north is a RIPOFF!

Ashcroft Auto Conversions in the UK makes the gearsets, you can buy it for about $500 if im not mistaken.

I am aware of the ripoff action from Rovers North, that's why I was hoping someone might know who actually makes the gearsets. Thanks!

Its a pretty neat set up. basically you need a mid IIa or later case (not SI, SII, or very early SIIa) and they machine the case to accept the larger gear and remachine it. You get a new outer case the new gears and some instructions for 280UKP. The machine work does not look easy so I would buy from ashcroft.

Ripoff? Depends on how you look at it. The RN unit is complete ready to install. If you get the kit, you have build the unit yourself.

I camped next to someone at MAR who had installed the RN unit in his Series and couldn't have been happier. He said, several times, how it was the best money he'd ever spent on his rig, short of the engine rebuild.

This was for the one that has a higher geared high range, same low range.

I have also read that Ashcroft no longer ships the stuff to US addresses as they now have distributors in the US.

500 pounds = $750 + shipping from UK + machining transfer case = not such a bad price from RN, I think.

Please do not forget the excellent customer service Rovers North offers. I have always been very happy with all my transactions at RN. Yes, they are not always the cheapest but the cheapest is not always the most prudent avenue to take! My .02, IMHO ect.....
