Is this unusual to want to do?
I"m thinking about trading my '94 D1 for a series, or selling the Disco to get a series....am I dumb or is that fairly common or what?

Cartner,

You might want to do a keyword search as there have been some discussions similiar to your question that might provide some insight.

I have both. Before you jump into anything drive a series. If you do not have to drive a lot for work and such, a series is great. If you drive a lot or live where the climate can be extreme (MS summers or ME winters) you maybe happier with a disco. Just do your homework. I love both but for differnt things and reasons

I to also have both a series truck and a disco. My addvice to you would be, if possible save some money on the side here and there and then go in for a series truck that needs a little sprucing up. I think you will be happier in the long run of it. As you know though they are different animals, just a thought.

I've got both as well, and agree with the comments above. A series truck can be tough as your main transportation if you do any distance driving. If you have a car or something else as a long trip (anything over an hour is long in a series truck) vehicle, you could do it.

I used to have an MGB before I got the Disco, and that was my primary transport, so I think I get the idea of how tough it CAN be, and I used to drive THAT everywhere, 8 or ten hour drives over several states were not unusual and the top was always down...I miss a manual transmission and the simplicity of all that...But I do love the disco. I have driven Series trucks, and came very close to buying John Dellingers SIII military, but for the discovery of chassis rust...some days I still wish I had but do value the Disco for its reliability and practicality. ANyone know if John sold his SIII by the way? it was located in DC, and was tan, RHD...anyway, thanks for the input, I probably will try to save for a while and see what I can scrape up for a fixer upper on the summer and holidays (I'm in college still), THANKS!

After wanting a series landy for god knows how long, i spent 3 months traveling Australia in a diesel 109, and I can say with some assurance that I would have given anything, ANYTING, for my disco. Then again, driving my disco now I would give anything for the 109.
… And so the dance goes … it’s all relative to comfort level and, subsequently, mental fatigue and unstableness (pumping brakes, overcorrecting stearing constantly, and of course SHOUTING BECAUSE YOU CAN'T HEAR ANYTING OVER THE ROAR OF THE ENGINE at your impressive terminal velocity of 100 kph!), but generally I’m sure you would not be disappointed in getting a series in place of the disco.

And, as it happens, I will just have one that I will be looking to sell around June of next year. =P

Cartner, you posted a while ago about taking a trip to Belize this winter. Are you still planning this?

Cartner: I traded a 1995 D-90 for my 1967 series 2a a couple of years ago: sometimes I regret it, but it was a little too modern. Made enough from the sale to get the 2a and a 1989 Toyota FJ62, which is the daily driver. The 2a is getting restored/modified for modern day life. Everytime my kids see a Defender, they scream "Daddy's old car!"
