Stupid question but do I need to empty the oil from the vehicle to change out the oil filter. I am adding a wise owl oil filter canister adapter. Any feedback on how well this unit works? |

The cannister type it will be full of oil either way . You could turn the engine over after draing the sump to pump the oil out of the filter canister but I don't think you can get all of it out . I remove it with a drain pan underneath and if you're careful you can tip the canister and drain enough out to remove it without getting oil running down to your armpit . The adapter does make an oil change an easier job. Be careful as it is possible to install backwards starving the motor of oil at start up. Give Ray a call if you uncomfortable with how it installs. He's helpfull with his products. I've seen a spin on filter puncture in offroad conditions . The canister will resist much more inpact than a spin-on will. My two cents Evan |

I've seen a spin on filter puncture in offroad conditions especially if your frame is weak and twists. To avoid an issue use a rover or dodge filter rather than the ford. Ron |

The unit is fine. Millions of vehicles use spin on oil filters. No, you don't need to drain the oil in the pan but when you remove the old filter unit you will get dirty. |

I should have been more specific.... I've seen a spin on filter conversion on a 88 punctured by a stone kicked up . The filter position is exposed . Personal experince the filter 'can' on my series has numerous dents and dings that could penetrate a spin on filter. |
