I have a rebuilt 67 IIA. All the electronics work perfectly (I thought) but I noticed the brake lights do not go on when I depress the brake petal. The tail lights work when the I turn on the headlights. I used to hear a slight "click" when I pressed the brake petal before. I came from the area where the brake petal disappeared into the firewall. I do not hear it any more. Any one know what that "click" is? Any ideas?

I had the same problem. I drove all the way from Tennessee back to North Carolina with no brake lights!!! A five hour drive, and I had never driven the truck before that...

OK, check this out, there is a little switch somewhere on the brake pedal assembly, usually near the master Cyl. What you are looking for is basically a little bolt thing that has two wires comming out of it. This is the brake light switch. I would suggest refering to the Green bible for removal and refitting (has some tolerences that must be met).

Have fun!!!

Thanks Max, I'll look around. Did you access the switch by unbolting the plate that covers the petals from the inside of the cab? Was it a pain the ass or pretty straight forward with the "tolerances?"

Matt,

The switch on my truck (unfortunately, probably different from yours) was right there on top. I took off the bonnet to get more elbow room.

Adjustment was easy, but it took about 7 minutes. You have to adjust the switch so that the pedal won't destroy it. It might take you some time but it isn't difficult at all.

Enjoy!!

Matt, on your 67 the switch will be on the right side of the frame, just in front of the firewall. Follow the brake line from the master cyl. to the frame, there you will find a 5 way junction, on that you will find a pressure switch. Check the 2 wires coming into it. If you un plug both wires and connect them together (paper clip) the brake lights should come on. If not, check the ground back at the lights themselves. Feel free to call me if you need further explanation.

David.

Okay, I've inherited this problem as of yesterday. The ground is good, I replaced a fuse and both brake lights are good when the two wires are connected. So the problem has to be the switch, right?

Max, I've tried backing it off a bit, is that the adjustment you are referring to?
