Hiya. Been lurking for awhile. Some of you know me.
Anyway, Who's got onboard air on their series rig? I've been contemplating this mod for awhile but other stuff keeps taking precedence.

Let's see some good descriptions and pics. There's gotta be some sweet setups out there...

i used mine today. works well when moving but for some reason not so well when sitting still. go figure.

Good one. Actually I was referring to compressed air systems. Hard to reinflate your tires through the scuttle vents...

Mo: I've got a 10 lb. Power Tank setup: should have mentioned it at HV and I would have shown it to you. I think it's better than a compressor, since it takes about a minute to air up a 31" tire, compared to 5-8 minutes for a compressor. The tank is convenient, it goes from the rover to the TLC inside a Pelican 1650, which also has all the recovery gear in it. I've seen the TrailAir and the 4Wheel: they are all about the same. The only other issue is finding an air chuck that can air down and air up, useful for those rigs with Equalized tires.

I do not have a series, nor do I have an onboard air kit on my disco II. I have however been looking at putting one on my Rover and have a compressor for my CJ-7, Jeep. If you are looking for an electric compressor I would recommend the Viair 450C available for view at http://www.tellico4x4.com/air/v45040.htm

If you desire an engine mounted compressor I would recommend a York compressor. They have one variety of York that is either a dual piston or dual cam; I think it is a dual piston. Anyway, I bought one of these for my Jeep and they move a LOT of air. I mean a LOT of air. The regular Yorks are still better than most electric compressors. The major downside of this compressor is that it is engine mounted. I am not sure if anyone makes a mount for your engine. For nice setups with a York, and others, go to http://bbs.off-road.com/wwwthreads/wwwthreads.pl and check out their Short Wheel Base (SWB) Jeeps BBS. Make sure you tell the people there you are from another BBS and were referred to them. Otherwise they might flame you for asking a quite common question.

I would recommend an auxiliary storage tank for whatever type of compressor you end up using. The storage tank, if large enough, should allow you to run air tools and other such items to aid you in case you breakdown.

After years of using about every kind of imaginable air source for tire inflation. (Hand/Foot pump, Electric, engine driven, and even a pump that replaced one of the spark-plugs).

IMHO - The Powertank is THE setup to have. Very convienient.

I have the 4wheel air 10lb setup. I have a mount for the disco on the rear cubby and for the IIa it "mounts" against the rear bulkhead to the hi-lift/bulkhead. Easy enough to move it from truck to truck. Not a great spot but secure and I can reach all tires without moving it. If I need to get to the hi-lift, the tank would have to be moved.

You can adjust the regulator pressure to provide a higher output than it comes with from the factory for super fast inflation and such (thanks James).

I have the Powertank regulator kit and sourced the tank at a local restaurant supply warehouse. It's big but lasts forever, and the refills are cheaper than using a welding supply shop.

powertank has one on there website a 10lb. tank. rebuilt to pretty much brand new. Its my friends he works for them and he just got there 15lb. They are trying to get rid of that for like 250 and Steve the owner of powertank is going to get gears made for land rover transfer cases to lower the gearing in low range. A set will be like 1500 or so. He needs feedback to see how much interest there will be for them.

Brad,

I think GBR makes or resells a kit for lowering transfer case gears. I think it is an Ashcroft set. I would pass that on before your boss spends too much tiome and caital reinventing the wheel.

He is doing it because he can under price them By like $500 to $1000 almost. And he's not my boss so he can spend the money on whatever. He is having a company make them that do jeep, toyota gears.
