So when I bought the truck, the springs were rusty and separating, probably the originals with 100k miles on them. The shocks likewise are probably originals or at least only replaced once or twice in the life of the truck. I therefore wrote off the strange way the truck sits on level ground to the fact that my suspension was so bad. I just got my OME shocks and Rocky Mountain springs finally installed and test driven. WOW what a difference. If you have a Series truck - do this upgrade. However, the truck is still very low in the front compared to the rear. I still does not, and never has sat level. I would say that if you were to measure it from the ground to the bottom of the slider in the front and in the rear, the front would be a good 1.5 inches lower. Again, it has brand new shocks and springs. Again, it is perfectly level right to left, but is low in front and higher in back... ????? |

3 leaf rear, but I would think that just because it is heavy duty in rear and standard in front (with hard top) that the lift in the rear would only be minimal when not loaded down. That it would resist being loaded down more, but that it would not actually lift the rear past the normal, even when unloaded. I have no idea about the shackles, they look to be of the same vintage, and I cannot find measurements for how long those would be on a stock IIa. Are the military or Series III or 109" shackles longer? If you look at some of the photos on my web site you will see what I am talking about, and if you wait till tomorrow night you will see the photos of how it looks now - I think the lift is just right, but that this low front end is even more pronounced than it was when I bought it 2 years ago. http://landrover.mrbaileyshistory.net |

Now that I got a hang of it, it took me about 2.5 hours for the rears. And that was working alone. |

OK, the before and after photos are on my web site, I will get some better ones up soon. Part of the problem I am having in getting a really good comparison shot is that it has been over 6 months since I had the "before" photo taken (notice the trees in the background.) Take note, the bottom of the diffs are now about 10" off the ground! The photos are on my web site here: http://landrover.mrbaileyshistory.net I also put new hinges on, the top is painted but the windows are not installed, the doors are partially painted with Rustoleum Sage Green, the wheels have been sand blasted and powder coated, and the tires are BFG A/T 33"/9.50"/15" A great fit, and I can't wait to test them out - they look very formidable for being A/T's - once the transfere case situation gets solved. |

problem solved, the pinion bolt (I think that is what it is called) had sheared, so while spinning with no pressure from the drivetrain, it was just flopping around in there. Sounded terrible, but no real damage done. 4x4 again!!! http://landrover.mrbaileyshistory.net |
